Lead Safe Mama’s “Safer Swaps” for Snacks! #SwapDrama2024
11/26/2024 – Tuesday
Quick note from Tamara Rubin:
I don’t know if you saw the “swap drama” on social media over the weekend.
It was a bit annoying.
Several “influencers” in the “food space” recommended a list of toxic products as “safer choices” — nearly EVERY recommendation on their lists was for a food product we have tested (through the Lead Safe Mama, LLC community-collaborative food testing initiative) that has tested positive for unsafe levels of one or more of the toxicants (Heavy Metals) we are looking for: Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, and Arsenic.
People have (this week, and prior to now as well) asked me to provide “safer swaps” in easy images so they know what to buy when they go to the grocery store.
While I know they are asking me to recommend packaged foods – in response (and perhaps in protest) I created a bit of an art installation on my Facebook and Instagram pages (it’s all an art installation in the end – isn’t it?) – with visual simple images of my recommended safer swaps along with links to those “products”. You can see a taste (pun intended) in these images at the top and bottom of this page. The images with multiple items shown are each screenshots of a grouping of all of the individual posts on my Instagram page yesterday!

Do you recommend frozen versions of these fruits?
There have been recalls in the past for issues with frozen fruits. We eat a lot of frozen fruit too though (organic). Keep an eye on recalls, eat organic.

I mentioned in another comment how natural fertilizers like animal manure can be a source of pathogens. Mexico takes it to a whole new level with farmers using human waste instead of artificial fertilizers.
