For those new to this website:
Tamara Rubin is a multiple-Federal-award-winning independent advocate for childhood Lead poisoning prevention and consumer goods safety and a documentary filmmaker. She is also a mother of Lead-poisoned children (two of her sons were acutely Lead-poisoned in 2005). Since 2009, Tamara has been using XRF technology (a scientific method used by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) to test consumer goods for toxicants (specifically heavy metals — including Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Antimony, and Arsenic). All test results reported on this website are science-based, accurate, and replicable. Items are tested multiple times to confirm the test results for each component tested. Tamara’s work was featured in Consumer Reports Magazine in February of 2023 (March 2023 print edition).

Hello from Jamaica Plain (Boston), Mass!
Happy Halloween from Boston! I am busy today trying to wrap up reporting of some final outstanding test results (so if you have been waiting for your consumer goods or soil test results for a bit, you should have them today – check your e-mail!).
I’m here in Boston for a brief moment and I cannot tell you how lovely it is to have spent one night under the same roof with all four of my sons. My younger kids require constant engagement (every day presents unique challenges related to their disabilities from having been Lead-poisoned as babies) but seeing all four of my sons together is my greatest joy. My two older sons (ages 20 and 26 now) have really taken on the role of “older brother of disabled younger siblings” — it has shaped who they are and how they act (with kindness) in the world, and I am forever thankful for that.
Since I do have my hands full today (with Halloween, with work for families, and also preparing to leave on an EPIC adventure tomorrow — traveling to Europe to help families with my XRF instrument in hand!) I wanted to make sure to share the top 12 most popular articles on the website today as we close out Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Month. If you load remote content for this email and scroll down — each of the images in this email is a clickable link that will take you through to the article pictured.
I just re-did the “Lead-free Casserole” article (with current choices and examples on Amazon and a few other updates) and given we are heading into “Casserole Season” this seemed like a great time to re-share that info (top of the page). Also important: Lead Safe Mama, LLC is closing out October 2022 with a bit of an operating deficit (currently down to $827.53 thanks to some contributions that have come in this morning) and the pumpkin (above) is linked to an article discussing the details and the ways you might be able to help today so that we close out the month in the black (instead of in the red).
- The #1 most important thing you can do to support this work is share Lead Safe Mama articles and pieces on your social media channels today and in the coming month.
- The #2 most impactful thing you could do is consider paying your deposit now for a future home consult (in the coming year) — my travel schedule through February is below and I am currently scheduling out through April if you plan that far in advance.
- And #3… if you are in a position to make a contribution in support of this work (in any amount) – that would be amazing too (again, click the pumpkin above for details!)
Thank you and — for those who celebrate — have a great holiday today.
Tamara Rubin
