      1. Was this tested for cadmium or lead…the post says 11,900 ppm cadmium. I would like to know if lead was present…I use my Le Creuset pot almost every day. I switched to cast iron thinking it was was the healthier option….

  1. Hi Tamara,
Not to sound like a broken record, but I also had the same question as the original responder: was there any lead found in the interior? You had written that “The exterior coating was non-detect for lead.” but nothing was mentioned about the interior.

  2. I was also confused by the way the measurements are written. you do post that the exterior is non-detect for lead, but you don’t say if the interior is non-detect for lead. you only say that the interior is non-detect for cadmium…

  3. i submitted a comment a few minutes ago, but forgot to check the box to be notified of new comments – checking the box now!

  4. Hello, I hope I’m not repeating myself, but I don’t think my earlier comment actually posted. I just wanted to say that I also am interested to see the lead on the inside clarified. The post says specifically that there is not lead on the outside, but lead on the inside is not mentioned at all. I see that there was lead on the inside of the Creuset mixing bowl, as well as the teapot and the stoneware custard pot…so I’m assuming the casserole pots and other enameled cast iron pots will also have lead on the inside…but as I said, and others have mentioned, this stat is absent in this post. Thank you for your work!

    1. I would love to know as well if you had a chance to re-test. It’s been a while and I’m hoping for better results. Do you actually contact the company with your results? If so, what did Le Creuset say?

  5. Please please please…was lead detected on the inside.
You only state no lead on outside.
Thanks for all that you do!!!

    1. I believe with this post (which was an item I tested a long Time ago) if no lead is noted that means there is no lead on the inside. I would want to re-test it though. The reporting I do now is much more thorough than what I used to do years ago.

      1. Hi, did you get a chance to retest it? I am very curious about the results. Could you also test other colors Le Creuset cast iron?? thank you!!

        1. Hi – I would have to find one to retest – I don’t own this nor have it in my collection. There are several other examples on the blog though – including many with more detailed test results. Just click the “Le Creuset” tab at the top of this post to see more examples.

  6. I talked to Le Creuset about three years ago and at that time all of their colors contained lead on the outside except green.

  7. Hi this is interesting to me. We use our Le Creuset pot often. We bought a white on though, due to toxicity concerns.

I’ll have to call Le Creuset and see if the white exterior contains lead and/or cadmium!

    1. Hi Meredith,

The white Le Creuset may contain low levels of Cadmium or Lead from cross contamination in the factory – but is generally within safe range (depending on the age.) With older pieces the white or cream interior can, in fact, test positive for very high levels of Lead.

  8. Wondering about LEAD, CADMIUM etc in another cast iron enamel dutch-oven made in France, called CHASSEUR?
Heard of it? (i have a turquoise one… off white on the inside)

    1. Hi Barbara,

I haven’t tested that brand. The older the piece the more likely it is to test positive for Lead and Cadmium (even 5 years old vs. made today.) The range in test results across brands and styles and colors is the main reason I don’t recommend using any enamel coated pots and pans at all. This post discusses it a bit – it’s my overview post for pots and pans: https://tamararubin.com/2021/01/i-want-to-buy-some-nontoxic-cookware-which-pots-pans-are-the-safest-for-cooking-which-pots-pans-are-the-least-toxic/
