#RandomTamaraStories: March 3, 1983 — My First Kiss

Published: March 3, 2025

Hello! Happy Monday!

#RandomtTamaraFact: Today’s a silly anniversary for me. For some reason I always remember that March 3, 1983 was the first day I kissed a boy! I guess 3/3/83 was easy to remember? Times have definitely changed, and there’s a whole story I should write up about that day for posterity (about sexual assault, asking for permission, bodily autonomy, sex education, yadda yadda yadda!)… but anyway, here we are 42 years later (and not hanging out in the woods in Hingham, Mass.)! And 42 is the answer to the question of “Life The Universe and Everything,” so perhaps this year this is somehow an auspicious day! Sorry #TMI!

Parenting advice for the day: My experience 42 years ago, when I was just 13-years -old, was probably a significant influencing factor in my choice to buy a copy of “The Joy of Sex” for each of my boys when they turned 15-years-old. The book has changed a bit over the years and it has been updated and modernized to be consistent with changes in our culture. I highly recommend it! (Read it first yourself before you hand it to your older teenager… and be prepared to answer lots of questions!) Here’s a link to the book if you want Lead Safe Mama, LLC to receive credit for your purchase — https://amzn.to/3QGT1Md — if you choose to buy on Amazon instead of buying local! (We always encourage “shopping small” and  buying local whenever possible!)
