Dear @hiyahealth —
–
The article you reference includes independent, third-party testing done by Lead Safe Mama, LLC — a woman-owned small business for consumer goods safety & childhood Lead poisoning prevention with a unique community collaborative business model.
–
The laboratory report for your product is in the article at the bottom.
–
The article is factual — and not alarmist in any way.
–
The headline is factual as well: “Hiya Kids Daily Multivitamins test positive for Lead, Cadmium, and Arsenic. Read the laboratory report here.”
–
All federal agencies agree there is no safe level of Lead exposure for kids. This is an undisputed fact.
–
Finally, while I do not endorse Smarty Pants (as their products also tested positive for Lead), please check out the third-party test results summary for their product, which has a significantly lower level of Lead than your product — a clear indication that lower levels are possible (and an indication it is possible for children’s vitamins to test “non-detect” for Cadmium and Arsenic as well).
–
The Lead Safe Mama community INVITES you to do better.
–
We invite you to more thoroughly test your products (down to a lower threshold of detection, ideally in the range of single digit parts per billion for Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, and Arsenic) — and once you have confirmed our findings (which you will if you use appropriate testing), we invite you to fix the problem.
–
Note: We state in our article that these levels in children’s vitamins are NOT illegal. There is no law saying that you cannot have children’s vitamins that test positive for Lead, Cadmium, and Arsenic.
–
What is legal or not legal is not relevant. We are asking you to do better REGARDLESS of the current lack of appropriate legislation in this area.
–
Thank you for doing the right thing.
–
Fighting back and doubting the science is not a good look — conducting additional investigations and fixing the problem is.
–
If you have any questions about the long-term negative impact of childhood Lead exposure, please watch the documentary film I directed and produced about childhood Lead poisoning in America today. It is available to watch for free on my website. TY

Great response back to them!

Their response was appalling. Accountability needs to be implemented.

Ugh I’m so mad I missed that hiya multivitamins were tested! Both my kids take their probiotics and have been for 2 years now… I’m disappointed that their “extensive third party testing” missed this and they aren’t admitting fault or atleast acknowledging that it’s fact and giving a response about they’ll research this to correct it…
Nell says
What is a safe multivitamin for a 15 month old?
Thank you!
Sasha says
I agree. Unfortunately, I wish their response had been better. I am now curious about SEED.com and its probiotics. They have a powder for kids and capsules for adults. For a long time, many health and organic-focused influencers on YouTube and Instagram have marketed them.

Part of their response to me- also refusing to refund my money: We reviewed this specific order, and as with every batch we sell, our heavy metal levels are well within any guidelines and very different from any data shared here.
To be specific, our third party lab facilities, Kappa Labs and PDA Laboratories Inc, are both registered with the FDA and other federal regulatory bodies. They are both ISO-certified. Prior to shipping, we tested this specific batch per flavor (404-1045, 404-1060, 405-0009, 404-1235 on June 4, 2024) and our labs found no significant levels of heavy metals. To be clear, this batch is well below federal standards and the most stringent statewide standards- California’s Prop 65.
We’ve desperately tried to get any information on the lab that Lead Safe Mama used to perform these tests and have not been able to find ANY evidence that it is FDA registered or ISO certified.
We go above and beyond what is required by law, and follow industry-leading best practices. To our knowledge, there is no other company in our space that provides this level of transparency.
Casey says
If they were confident the product was free of heavy metals, they would have sued or sent a cease and desist letter. The fact that they haven’t shows they know it contains heavy metals, so all they can do is remain bitter. We need to sue them for false advertising.
Krystle says
So disappointed. My daughter has been taking these. Just cancelled our subscription. Any safe options for children’s multivitamins?
Joshua says
Tamara, can you share the details of the lab that ran the tests for you? From comments here, it seems like Hiya is seeking to verify your test’s validity and objecting that they can’t find that information. It would help put their argument to rest and clarify for all of us if those details were available. Thanks!

The lab report – with all of the lab info is at the bottom of each of the articles.
Tamara says
The lab info is actual also on the bottom of this exact page that you are commenting on.
