Six new sets of test results + a Reggae festival!
For those new to this website:
Tamara Rubin is a multiple-Federal-award-winning independent advocate for childhood Lead-poisoning prevention and consumer goods safety, and a documentary filmmaker. She is also a mother of Lead-poisoned children (two of her sons were acutely Lead-poisoned in 2005). Since 2009, Tamara has been using XRF technology (a scientific method used by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) to test consumer goods for toxicants (specifically heavy metals — including Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Antimony, and Arsenic). All test results reported on this website are science-based, accurate, and replicable. Items are tested multiple times to confirm the test results for each component tested. Tamara’s work was featured in Consumer Reports Magazine in February of 2023 (March 2023 print edition).
Six new sets of test results + a Reggae festival!

Hey all!
Since I landed back in the U.S. I’ve been working on getting through as much of the testing I have here in my office as I can as quickly as possible. If you sent in your items and haven’t yet seen the test results posted, they should be published in the coming week — so please stand by. This newsletter includes links to SIX new articles with consumer goods test results, so please click through the site to see the test results for any items that might be of interest!
This weekend is the Northwest World Reggae Festival (NWWRF) here in Oregon. Lead Safe Mama, LLC is a community partner in this event. NWWRF is one of our oldest outreach collaborations — we have had a Lead Poisoning Prevention Advocacy booth at this festival off-and-on since 2009! Each year we are on hand to answer questions about childhood Lead poisoning prevention and consumer goods safety while we also host fun, free activities for the kiddos throughout the day like games, free raffles, face painting, juggling lessons, art activities, and more. This year the festival is on two days (Friday and Saturday). As we do at most of our outreach events, we’re also conducting free consumer goods testing for anyone at the festival who brings things by to test. Here’s the link if you love reggae, good music in general, and love enjoying the outdoors with a friendly and peaceful family-oriented community: https://www.nwwrf.com/. Come say “hello!” I will be there alongside my whole family working the booth with me (as we do together most years!).
The Lead Safe Mama booth at the NWWRF each year is not paid for or sponsored by any outside agency or grant. Our costs for this community outreach event are covered through funds earned when you read and share the links to articles from the Lead Safe Mama website! Thank you for continuing to support this work in this free and simple way. If you haven’t recently shared one of our article links on your social media pages (or in your social media groups), this would be a great time to do that! The Barbie piece (shared here via our newsletter yesterday and linked below) might be a great one to share given the buzz this week. Thank you!
I hope to see at least some of our Pacific Northwest friends at the festival this weekend!
