Villeroy & Boch, Luxembourg, GEO (pattern?) white ceramic saucer: 15 ppm Lead on the food surface (safe by all standards).

| | | | |

Here’s the general introduction I provide on a lot of my posts, for those who may be new to (or have possibly “stumbled upon”) my work – while just casually browsing, or conducting more serious research:

Tamara Rubin is an internationally recognized, Federal-award-winning independent advocate for consumer goods safety and childhood Lead-poisoning prevention. She is also a mother of Lead-poisoned children. She began testing consumer goods for toxicants in 2009, and was the parent-advocate responsible for finding Lead in the popular fidget spinner toys in 2017. She uses XRF testing (a scientific method used by the Consumer Product Safety Commission) to test consumer goods for metallic toxicants (including Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, and Arsenic). All test results reported here on LeadSafeMama.com are science-based, accurate and replicable. To read more about the testing methodology employed for the test results reported on this blog, please click this link.

  1. I have dishes by this designer but a different pattern (has paint). Do you find if a brand is safer like this, that most patterns are generally safe from them or not when they have painted designs?
    Thanks for your work!

    1. I wish to know the same. I used to love this brand and have many different pieces in the house. Would you mind sharing your thoughts

  2. I would REALLY love to know if their vintage 60s/70s/80s Acapulco creamer and sugar bowl are safe. Is that anything you have come across?

    Thanks so much!
    Jenn

    1. Me too. I’ve been feeding my family daily on my grandmother’s vintage Acapulco china from Villeroy and Boch. It’s such a fun, colorful pattern and I inherited a large set. I’m now concerned that I have been inadvertently poisoning my loved ones. Ugh.

  3. I would love to know about V&B:
    •Chambord
    •Naïf Christmas
    •Design Naif
    •Manoir

Since I now have to dump my toxic, daily use Churchill Blue Willow, I need to determine the safety of my other sets!

•various modern Japanese bowls & cups
    •Woods Burslem ‘Seaforth’ (1890’s & 1930’s)
    •Rorstrand ‘Ostindia’ (made in Sweden)
    •Johnson Brothers ‘County Clare’ (1970’s – 80’s)
    •Henriot Quimper (1990’s – 2000’s)
    •Sadler teapots (made in England)
    •various Arabia (made in Finland)
    •various Gien (made in France)

If anyone knows anything about the toxicity of these pieces, please share.

    Thank you!

  4. I use my Villeroy and Boch daily. My designs are:
    Wild Rose
    Foglia
    Switch 3
    Naif
    Bianca (cookware)
    Old Luxemburg
I also use their glassware, some are lead crystal but I do not remember the design names.

  5. I wanted to buy MALACASA Dinnerware-Porcelain (white). It states Cadmium Free, BPA Free, Lead free, but it is made in China and I am not sure if I can trust anything that made in China, but porcelain was invented in China. Also I purchased Lead Testing Swabs to check my dishes, but they all came out negative, even though they should be 86% correct. What are your thoughts on all of it, please? Thank you.

    1. Lead testing swabs will not detect lead on dishes unless it is sky high. They are mainly designed for lead paint.

  6. I am very interested in knowing about Villeroy & Boch Petite Fleur from the 1980’s. I am happy to supply a piece for testing.

  7. i have villeroy and boch intarsia…can i send them to you for testing as i’m seeing most of the amazon lead testing kits have reviews saying they are not accurate

  8. I have the same question – is the V&B Artesano line safe? The all white version, purchased in 2023 and 2024?
