Video at my house. Filmed January 5, 2021
Our home was built in 1905. With the first big rain this winter we had a roof leak (a couple of months ago) that ended up leaving us needing to do a full roof replacement and gut the kitchen to clean up the mold. We had professional Lead, Mold and Asbestos remediation done in the kitchen over the past month+ (kitchen is still gutted, pending the insurance company approving a quote to rebuild the interior).
But then, on January 2nd (upon returning home after being gone with the kids for several months because I knew it wasn’t safe for us to be in the home), I realized we actually still might have a lead dust hazard in the kitchen from the work that was done (since there was dust everywhere and the remediation guys did not do any clearance testing). I made this video to show everything we did (and planned on doing) to quantify the scope of this problem and resolve things as quickly as possible (keeping the kids safe without panicking!) These are all interim measures to stabilize our gutted kitchen so we can safely live in the house until the work is done.
I will be doing a follow up post here on my blog sharing the test results of the testing shown in this video. We also got blood lead tests for the kids (I expect they were not exposed to the dust where the Lead levels were high (because they were not going in that part of the home) – but I am just “hoping” on that one and keeping my fingers crossed until we get their blood test results back.)
Hopefully you will find this video helpful if you are going through a similar situation. This also happened the day I broke my leg… #sigh (this was in the morning and I broke my leg later that night). Here’s the post about breaking my leg… in case you are curious!
Thanks for watching!
