This Sur La Table White Ramekin (Custard Cup) from their “Every Day Porcelain” line tested negative for lead in the white glazed surface and positive for trace levels of lead (at just 36 ppm) on the unglazed bottom exterior surface. This was purchased new in late 2015/early 2016 and tested in 2016. Testing was done with an XRF instrument. This product was marked as “Made in China”.
This trace amount of lead is not at a level that would be considered an added ingredient and is also considered safe by all standards.
Here are some links* to comparable choices available on Amazon today, that are also likely to be lead-safe or lead-free. I have not tested each these exact products but as they are new and very similar to many of those that I have tested [and the choices below are not from brands I avoid!], they are likely good choices.
3 oz, set of 6 ramekins
6 oz, set of 8 ramekins
6 oz, set of 2 ramekins
My preferred choice (clear glass):
6 oz. set of 4 ramekins.

Good morning, I hope all is well and that you and your family are safe. Have you tested Harold Import Co products or the newer porcelain ramekins from Sur La Table?

Hi Genise –
In general I don’t trust any ceramic products from Sur La Table – although NEW choices of the white-glazed ceramic Sur La Table branded products (with a white ceramic / porcelain base) are likely Lead-safe or Lead-free. Here’s my link to the Sur La Table category on the blog, there are several posts (including very new examples of ceramics): https://tamararubin.com/category/sur-la-table/

Do you know if Royal Worcester Ramekins from England are safe or if the porcelain has lead? Otherwise do you know of any brands not made in China that are lead and chemical free?
Thanks
Aurlee

Hi Aurlee,
Thank you for commenting.
I am not familiar with that particular brand. If you want more information you could e-mail me a photo.
