Readers: This post is NOT paid or sponsored in any way — I just LOVE this product!
Dear Earth Mama Angel Baby,
Thank you!
I love you! You guys are miracle workers!
When you told me I had the chance to get a sample packet of your latest new products to try (and I already love your Oregon-based company and your organic plant-based products!) and that the product included your new Baby Face Organic Nose & Cheek balm I was thrilled to possibly find something new for my son Avi to use.
Avi is decidedly not a baby; he is about 5 ft 3 and 130 lbs! He has a brain injury and Autism diagnosis as a consequence of acute lead poisoning when he was an infant — and he has an array of physical ailments as a result of being poisoned as well. He suffers from severe Plaque Psoriasis, as well as overall extreme skin sensitivity. He also has fairly severe OCD — which is getting worse as he progresses further into puberty.
Avi already relies on an assortment of natural and organic lip balms just to get through the day — and we go through these year round like [enter your favorite food staple metaphor here]! I have a jar full of them on the counter, and have to have at least seven on hand every week so there is one for him to put in his pocket each day of the week, because his chronically chapped lips are constantly a distracting irritation for him, and it’s important for him to have tools to self-soothe (and he always manages to lose them or leave them in his pockets in the laundry too!)
However, I had not yet found a product that he was comfortable using on other parts of his body — and we have been looking for one for years (literally years!)
As a result of his OCD, he washes his hands constantly (because he is afraid of “germs”— and also because he “wants to be a good kid and stay clean”, because he thinks, “clean = healthy.”
So last night, before bed, he started screaming and crying that the backs of his hands hurt. I knew they had been bothering him [and we have an appointment to see the doctor about that on Monday] but I have just been assuming his hands were hurting because it looked like the Plaque Psoriasis was migrating to his hands, where it had never been before (every winter it usually erupts up in a new place!) But then… last night… a lightbulb went off in my brain and I realized he was probably CAUSING his hands to hurt by washing them too much (in the dry cold weather!) [One of those parenting #Doh! moments, where you wonder why you didn’t think of that a week or two ago!]
I asked him if he wanted to use the lotion he uses to wipe his bum on his hands [he even has Plaque Psoriasis on his genitals and anus and needs to wipe with lotion or he bleeds]. He was like “NOOOO — I only use that for my bum – and I am not putting that anywhere near my hands!” [Even though the bottle never touches his bum and – with all his compulsive hands washing – is truly clean, lol! #LivingWithOCD!]
And then I remembered the box of samples you sent me that I had out in my shed! I had been waiting for the right opportunity to try the new products (not knowing what that would be) and this was it! I ran out and got it and massaged your “Nose & Cheek Balm“ onto his hands… knowing (confidently) that he would not experience any chemical sensitivities to your product (as he does with any products that have fragrance or colors) because your product doesn’t have any of the awful additives found in so many other products! I told him to massage his face with the excess lotion that was on his hands (his face is experiencing new symptoms this year too – also likely due to puberty!)
At first he was uncomfortable (new lotion “textures” are always difficult for him to manage) and then he got used to it…about a half hour later I massaged more into his hands and we had a talk about washing hands less and why that is important (and how washing hands too much can make them bleed!) And then about an hour after the first application he said his hands were feeling a little better!
Last night Avi and I made an agreement to use your Nose and Cheek Balm on his hands (and face!) for the next few days, every time after he washes his hands. [He is also going to try really hard to wash his hands less frequently!] I told him that after we have conducted this little experiment he could write his very own blog post and let you know (in his words) what he thinks about it and how it makes his skin feel.
Thank you again Earth Mama Angel Baby!
To my other readers, I must reiterate, this is not a paid endorsement! A friend of mine happens to work at this company and sent us these samples to try. I have loved their products in the past and since Avi needs “safe” products (because he can have severe life-threatening reactions to fragrances and dyes otherwise) I was excited and knew I would have at least one use for this new product!
I also knew that if Avi liked it, other mamas with Special Needs kids might want to know that so they might consider trying it on their kiddos too!
Here’s a link to the product on Earth Mama Angel Baby’s site. [Again, no “personal interest” here; this is not an affiliate link! You can purchase this product directly on their site.]
Thanks again, friends. I am so happy I have amazing friends out there, working with incredible companies who do right for our smaller and more vulnerable citizens!
Note: this is a new product, and is not yet available on Amazon. [If you already buy other Earth Mama products and would like to use my Amazon affiliate links to purchase them (so I get a referral credit from Amazon for a small percentage of your purchase at no extra cost to you) I have included a few of those here as well (click the images to see the products on Amazon.)]
Sincerely,

Yes! They sent me some of that too! I haven’t tried it yet!

We love this, too! The skin on my hands gets dry and the other day started to crack and I used this and it felt so much better. It protected my skin so it would have a chance to heal.

I haven’t yet tried any of their products, but I noticed that they use organic sunflower seed oil and water (NOT filtered water) in some of their products. Because sunflowers are what environmental scientists call hyperaccumulators; that is, the plants have the ability to take up large amounts of toxic materials (including toxic heavy metals and radiation) from the soil. Organic does not mean free of heavy metals as we all may be aware. Have you tested any of their products? I do appreciate all of your work!
