This project was fully funded – and then some! – within two hours of publishing the GoFundMe campaign! Any additional funds raised beyond the costs for testing and reporting on this product will be allocated towards the cost of testing and reporting on another product that Lead Safe Mama community members have asked to have tested. A full budget detailing the costs of testing that we are working to cover for each of the food products that Lead Safe Mama community members have asked us to test is included in each of the GoFundMe campaign’s narrative (on the GoFundMe website). Tamara Rubin is a multiple-federal-award-winning independent advocate for childhood Lead poisoning prevention and consumer goods safety, and a documentary filmmaker. She is also a mother of Lead-poisoned children (two of her four sons were acutely Lead-poisoned in 2005).
- Tamara owns and runs Lead Safe Mama, LLC — a unique community collaborative woman-owned small business for childhood Lead poisoning prevention and consumer goods safety.
- Since July of 2022, the work of Lead Safe Mama, LLC has been responsible for 5 product recalls (FDA and CPSC).

Round #1! – This is the FIRST Lead Safe Mama, LLC crowdfunding campaign created to help cover the cost of getting independent third party laboratory testing for metals (Lead, Cadmium, Mercury and Arsenic) done on a specific food product (chosen by the Lead Safe Mama online community) through Lead Safe Mama, LLC. Contributions made in support of this campaign will help us cover the cost of independent laboratory testing (which for an individual is often cost-prohibitive) and other costs related to testing this specific item and publishing the results on the Lead Safe Mama website (publicly, free-of-charge, not behind a paywall).

If you are able to make a contribution in support of this testing project (or in support any of our other food testing fundraising campaigns), any contribution – in any amount – would be helpful to publicly demonstrate the level of interest in this testing. No amount is “too small”. Frankly I would rather see three hundred $1.00 contributions (rather than three $100 contributions) because of the show of support for this testing that three hundred small contributions would demonstrate! GoFundMe does have a minimum contribution of $5.00 – however we hope to move some of this fundraising off of GoFundMe soon too – so people can also show their support with smaller contributions if they prefer! Average contributions in support of this testing so far (since we opened this testing up for being supported through crowdfunding a few days ago) have been $10.40 each – with a low contribution of $5 and a high contribution of $25.
