For those new to this website:

Tamara Rubin is a multiple-federal-award-winning independent advocate for childhood Lead poisoning prevention and consumer goods safety, and a documentary filmmaker. She is also a mother of Lead-poisoned children (two of her sons were acutely Lead-poisoned in 2005). Since 2009, Tamara has been using XRF technology (a scientific method used by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) to test consumer goods for toxicants (specifically heavy metals — including Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Antimony, and Arsenic). Tamara’s work was featured in Consumer Reports Magazine in February 2023 (March 2023 print edition).

Things are going a bit “viral” today, but I cannot tell where people are coming from. Please take two seconds to comment on this post and let me know how you found Lead Safe Mama (our website or social media). Thank you!

  1. I randomly stumbled upon your website when googling about lead after having my little one. It’s been such a blessing to learn so much from you. Thank you Tamara!!

  2. Found you forever ago when I was searching for lead testing kits but was low on money. You sent me a donated kit and it meant a lot to me. Using the kit, we identified that a playhouse on our property was painted in badly chipping lead paint.

  3. I found Leadsafe Mama website online accidentally quite a few years ago. I was very happy that I did because I then trashed many vintage dishes I had and purchased the white Corelle set that she recommended! I use these daily and sent her website to friends and family. Thank you Tamara!

  4. I first found you several years ago on the internet, when I searched for info about lead. I was just curious, because I didn’t know what it did to people, only that it was dangerous for babies. Later, I wondered about lead & dementia. My mother was one of 8 siblings, 5 of whom had dementia before they died. We have recently had our well tested for heavy metals, among other things, and it came back pretty good –only more iron than normal. I have had memory problems in the last few yrs. and wondered if lead might be in my dishes, ( I have used my mother’s and grandmother’s dishes for years). I bought new dishes, because of your posts. I am also concerned about my kids and grandkids and the amount of neurological symptoms they have had. Of my decendents, 4 out of 8 have one or more of these issues: panic attacks, depression, dyslexia, autism. My mother’s generation did not have those problems at all. Neither do I. I believe it is environmental. We have lived in phosphate mining and agricultural area all our lives–over 60 yrs in the same spot. My kids were raised here. My grandkids live only about 25 miles away.

  5. Probably read your stuff on one of the green parenting websites or blogs I followed, and then followed you here and on Facebook. I lead an online attachment parenting group, and share your info with the moms there.

  6. I had a vague knowledge of some lead dangers (I have used only plain glass dishes and cups for a long time), but I had no idea of the scope of the problem. I was doing a lot of reading about environmental health issues connected to building materials, because I am planning a renovation. I was consulting MyChemicalFreeHouse.net for a lot of the information, and Connie Segura (whose web site it is) had done a study on lead in tiles. I found that somewhat concerning, and I think it led me to do some online searches, which is probably how I found your website. When I started reading your web site and watched the film, I was really shocked. I still am somewhat in shock about how severe and prevalent lead contamination appears to be and how little most people know about it. It is beyond disturbing. And you are doing amazing work bringing this to light.

  7. Found your work because of a friend on FB. So grateful for everything you do! It’s staggering to me that companies still add poison to products think it’s ok.

  8. I’m in Manti, Utah. You woke me up to the danger of what we have been eat off of. I loved all by differ sets of plates but they’re mostly thrown away now. I’m using clear glass plates now, that you recommended, from Amazon. I’ve bought several things that you recommended from there. I also posted about you and your site on my wall on Facebook.

  9. Transforming toddlerhood 6th annual conference. I’ve been more conscious on my choices since then and I thank you

  10. I honestly don’t know – I think Facebook…but I take in a lot…and I think I signed up for your Facebook page way after reading and sharing your stuff all over.

I also had a question. I used to “push” Tupperware & have a lot of it, from mid ‘90s but also thrift finds, newer replacements, gifts, etc… I wanted to take a pic for you. I have been pulling it for over a week, still finding more.

I live near Akron & planned to bring it with me to Columbus tomorrow in case you are interested in testing for the site. BUT I got really sick Friday – still sick now, even fever, so I probably won’t be there. I could maybe meet up with you somewhere when you swing north later? I could ask friends to loan me their Tupperware too so you would have an even wider variety.

  11. From Pennsylvania, I made a post in a non toxic mom group on Facebook and someone tagged your page. My post was about lead free water bottles for kids.

  12. I found you and your website when researching vintage tea cups/dishes and the probability of lead being in vintage dishes.

  13. By researching if my two young children’s products contain lead, I’ve come across your amazing website. The fact that it seems in America we continue to buy products from China whom do not care whatsoever if our baby’s bottles are lead laced has made me a major advocate in my own life for more lead testing and regulation. Thank you for all you do! I hope you will be able to test more products for those young children with the publicity you’re receiving.

  14. I was following you, because of someone I follow. I follow so many people/companies/organizations that you were lost in the mass followers…until a friend of mine, recommended that I follow you(already was). My friend has made many purchases due to your recommendations. She is really irritated that she had purchased the Xtrema/and Everday pan cookware before she read your research. I have a lot of items in my storage to get rid of and eventually replace due to your recommendations. Thanks for doing this life saving work. I hope someday you get the respect, gratitude, and money that you truly deserve for your work.

  15. Florence, SC – I found you several years ago and am on your email list. Thank you for the work you do in educating everyone about the dangers and ubiquity of lead in so many things we use every day!

  16. I came across you through various internet searches along with Leah from “Mamavation” and Irina from “I Read the Labels for You”

  17. A friend shared your information when you were going to be testing the Stanley mugs. I have since purchased a Hydroflask mug, thanks to you.
