Lead poisoning is political (in every sense of the word)

For those new to the Lead Safe Mama website:

Tamara Rubin is a multiple-federal-award-winning independent advocate for childhood Lead poisoning prevention and consumer goods safety, and a documentary filmmaker. She is also a mother of Lead-poisoned children (two of her four sons were acutely Lead-poisoned in 2005).

In response to some of the comments on the Lead Safe Mama Instagram page tonight:

Many words in the English language have multiple meanings and nuances. “Politics” may be used in a sentence that has nothing to do with “political parties” or “formalized government.” “Politics” can be used when referencing a corporation’s policies and actions concerning the health and well-being of the humans who use the products made by that corporation (see image: Aristotle — “public matters … of citizens”).

In this sense, Corelle (now owned by Instant Brands) has TERRIBLE, UNETHICAL corporate politics — evidenced by their focus on making false (and spin-doctored) public statements with the sole intention of covering their ass/ making them look good/ deflecting potential liability for poisoning generations of families around the world. That’s bad corporate POLITICS.

PLEASE — <some people> — PLEASE read more carefully. Take a moment to understand the words that are written. I am NOT interested in discussing *YOUR* “politics” (in the party-affiliation sense)… I DO care when *corporate* politics (lack of ethical and honest behavior in ruthless pursuit of maximizing their bottom line — at the expense of the health and well-being of their customers) creates a situation that causes physical harm.

And BTW, Lead poisoning IS “political” — a truly “pan-partisan” issue. Lead is an equal-opportunity threat — to ALL people, everywhere.

If you are here because you “just want non-toxic dishes,” THAT tiny act is a POLITICAL choice. YOU are choosing to take a stand for the health and well-being of your family over the interest and profits of corporations. If you have ANY questions about this, watch my film (linked here).

  1. Hello, I am interested in how your children got lead poisoning.
Can you send a link to further reading or a video which will educate me. I got a visionware pot from op shop today. I would be sceptical about cast iron you use as iron in high doses is toxic. Still am happy to learn.
    Thanks Renee
