Below is the video response from the owner of Cupkin (in response to the article and letter I published last night  link here).

Here’s a screenshot of the letter they sent out with this video:

Here’s the text of their letter as written, this also includes a hyperlink to their website:

This morning, we received an email from Tamara Rubin of Lead Safe Mama. We wanted to publicly acknowledge that we take all feedback seriously and are working hard to validate every claim.

Our manufacturing partner confirmed multiple times that absolutely no lead was used in any part of our production process. We took it a step further and had our cups tested by 2 separate 3rd party US CPSC-accredited labs. CPSC stands for Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Our cups have multiple CPCs (Children’s Product Certificates) issued by both accredited labs. This means that these labs tested our products thoroughly for lead, sharp edges, phthalates and other toxins but came back negative for everything.

We are currently researching the concerns raised and are working to identify any necessary actions. In the meantime, we want to reassure our community that the safety and quality of our products are our top priority. We are committed to providing our customers with the best possible experience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

We’re firm believers in radical transparency and, as such, will update this matter as soon as more information becomes available.

If you’re interested in getting a refund, please fill out this form, and we’ll contact you about the next steps.

  1. Great work. It will be very interesting to test the full, historic range of cups. My guess is that the manufacturer has changed the production process without telling anyone important at Cupkin so some cups might be OK. However, if the bottom of the cup is not worn, there should be no need for panic and parents should not need to be anxious that they have poisoned their children.

  2. Very happy to hear about your concern and commitment to get to the bottom of this. i am a follower of Lead Safe M. If the result shiws it becomes absolutely lead free, I will support you. Up until this dialog I never heard of your company snd just watched your video. I know personally I’ve trusted companies that claim lead free cadmium free only to discover it was not true. After discarding all of my family cooking tools and dinnerware going back in time, due to lead or aluminum or cadmium I certainly don’t want to add anything toxic to our home. Those pieces held great emotional ties yet not worth exposing my granddaughter to. Again I thank you fir your cooperative response and look forward to your findings. Thank you to Tamara for working with you on testing.

  3. WOW – what a great and thoughtful response!! I purchased these cups for my toddler, so it will be interesting how this plays out.

  4. As someone who makes all the purchases for my family, it’s a relief to see this type of response to a valid concern. If this continues and they fix the issue, they will be an excellent company worth supporting.

  5. This is not an actor. He genuinely, for me, speaks from not only his heart but his brain. If that makes sense. Tamara I’ve never seen a video on your site that moved me as his did. Haven’t seen all your stuff, yet. I want to get ahold of this friend and ask her to watch the video. She writes for our town news paper. She needs stories and this is an important beginning for many here that do not know about you Tamara and what your doing for ALL our lives ,NOW and in the future. I will let you know what happens Tamara.
And thank you for what you do.

  6. Much respect to this company for openness and willingness to to delve deeper and address any possible lead problems in any of their products past and present.

  7. I have a lot of respect for this company and how they are handling this. I wish all companies would do the same.

  8. This is the kind of reaction we would like to see from every company who is found to have some products with lead or other toxic elements. Once he did all the steps that he says he will do, this will be a company I would buy from. If he finds out there is a problem with past batches, I hope there will be some new sign on the products that will let us know that the ones we are buying are really the new batches that have no more toxic thing in it. Because the different stores could continue selling the old stock before they sell the new stock. This, I think, could be the last step I would suggest, so we can have trust. So, right now, I can just say I find this person did what he is supposed to do. He did the right thing from the beginning and still got some problem because of the manufacturer it seems, and now he is doing the right thing to fix the problem. I wish there would be more people like him in this corrupt world.

  9. What a wonderful, responsible and heartfelt response – Much respect for this young man! I Wish all companies would take that same approach whether it’s children”s items or items for any age. Maybe this young man will set a precedent for other companies to follow.

  10. Appreciate your work and the company’s response. Why are we just receiving a notice from Amazon 6 months later though? I would’ve been nice to have been notified sooner.
