July 21, 2022 — Thursday
We’ve officially listed our home for sale! The listing goes live tomorrow (and I will update this post with the link as soon as I have it), but in the meantime I wanted to share the wonderful photos of our home that were taken by our real estate agent’s team yesterday (scroll down to see all 33 of the photos). It’s really nice to have our home of 15+ years memorialized, in a way (especially since the next owner will probably be a developer — and will likely want to tear our house down and build five units here — since the city is encouraging density, and well, “the numbers…”).
While we will miss many things about Portland, which has been our home for the last couple of decades (the entire lives to date of our three youngest boys!), our plan at the moment is to sell the house, pay off the debt owed to all of the friends who have helped over our “journey” of the past 6 years — and move to Maine (we’re currently looking near Belfast)! Once we have a new (small/affordable) home base for our family set up in Maine (driving distance to our two adult sons who live in Boston full-time!) we are going to explore possible paths for moving to Europe, getting out of this country A.S.A.P. (given the increasingly high costs, financial, as well as social, and psychological/spiritual, of living here in the United States under the weight of the current increasingly-divisive/oppressive/dysfunctional political climate!)
ETA [Edited To Add]: I had NO IDEA this post would “go viral!” Since I published it (about 5 hours ago), it has been viewed more than 3,300 times! Accordingly, (to capture some of the traffic and interest and preemptively answer some questions) I am going to update the text with some of the images below by adding affiliate links for some of the items pictured. Amazon links are affiliate links, if you purchase something after clicking on an affiliate link, Lead Safe Mama, LLC may receive a percentage of what you spend — at no extra cost to you!
And with that, here are all of the lovely photos taken yesterday 7/21/22 (Wednesday):

Is this in Portland? I hate to see another house with beautiful old woodwork go away…but yes that’s the times we live in nowadays :/
Tamara says
The woodwork is positive for unsafe levels of Lead and Arsenic.

It’s looks like it was a “home” sad to see you leaving it, but best of luck on your new journey. I agree our country is a bit of a mess now, but I have hope it will be better. I hope you find what you are looking for in Europe.

Thank you. I won’t stop writing and reporting! [But will be able to pay my bills and take care of my kids without issue under this new scenario!]

It is a home. Something you have personalised. How beautiful.
Sucky McSuckface says
This house is a mess. You have ruined what could have been very lovely. Your asking price for as-is is laughable. No repairs. Another Portland delusional.
Tamara says
Dear Sucky McSuckface – it’s a tear down. It was a tear down when we bought it 15 years ago – we ruined nothing. No foundation (overrun with rats and mice when we bought it), needed a new roof at the time. It was never actually a house – just some sticks and drywall in the shape of a house. Asking price is for five buildable lots. Thank you for commenting – per our privacy policy here’s your IP address and (faux?) email: getoffmytits@yahoo.com

is all the wood block frames still in pics lead and high arsenic as well? All the woodwork is beautiful and the piece by the staircase and the staircase but no way is old beautiful wood worth the risk, if someone were to build new and add those kind of trims and wood frames from homedepot or lowes would they now test lead safe or lead free? most material sold at these stores or is lead still a major concern even now?
Tamara says
We removed nearly all of the wood trim after these photos were taken – because of the Lead & Arsenic concerns.
