File this under: “stuff I bought for my family” — clear glass mugs (Lead-free!)

I liked these so much I bought them twice! I bought a set for our home in Portland and bought a second set for my son’s apartment in Boston (for him to use in his college apartment with his roommates). These are my favorite mugs because not only are they Lead-free, but they (for me) are super comfortable to hold and just the right size (in terms of the amount of coffee they hold!). 1. I like the double walled glass coffee mugs, 13 – 15 oz. Can you recommend a brand? And, are there safe stainless steel coffee mugs?

    1. My past research indicates that all of Duralex glasses are lead, cadmium, and mercury free including the color ones. They even sent me a certificate of their materials, which indicate their QA team is serious about this stuff. I also use other brands such as Bormioli Rocco (recently), Corelle (only the white one), and some other brands I can’t recall at the moment.

      1. Please update with other brand options. I’m particulary interested in Vikko 13 ounce and Kitchen Kite 16 ounce double walled. Not just for lead, but also cadmium.

  2. Hi Tamara,

I LOVE your website! Your commitment to a toxic-free kitchen is soo helpful! Can you tell me your thoughts on the use of microwave ovens? I searched your site and couldn’t find anything about it. As well, I went through your list of lead-free, glass mugs and couldn’t find any that were microwave ‘safe’. Is this because microwaves are harmful either in their use, or in their stripping of nutrients from the food they are cooking?

Thanks, in advance, for your help,
    M

  3. Hello tamara i bought this clear double wall mugs the brand is OGGI i want to know if they are lead free because under the cup they say OGGI with black ink . They are borosilicate glass.

  4. Hello I want to say Im so thankful for all you do for the community! you’re so appreciated! Do you have any recommendations for double wall glass mugs preferably in a 15-16 oz?

    1. Hi! I had some on my lists but then readers reported that they had painted logo markings and so were possibly not Lead-free. I might have a suggestion though – let me see what I can find.

  5. Hi Tamara,
    1. Thank you for everything you’re doing and have done for the general public. I’m so sorry your kiddos were lead poisoned and I sincerely hope they’re doing better! I understand how difficult it is when our children have chronic, intractable and systemic medical conditions. I’m wishing you and yours wellness on that point.

    2. The erroneous legal case aimed at you sounds well funded. I wonder how far up the chain things go? I wonder if a little forensic accounting and life-style research of said chain would yield interesting data? I’m SURE everything has been above board and all the players have only the best interest of the families and children they serve. I’m sure!

    3. On another note, I searched your site but didn’t see any reviews of new Chemex mugs and so forth. If I missed it, sorry, would you please post a link? If not, I’ll send a mug and donate funds for testing. I understand that painted/stamped logos can be poisoned but in this instance, I want to focus on the glass composition.

    Thanks and only best wishes,
    Shannon
PS: I really wish I could get my hands on an XRF handheld. really, really, wish…
