When tested with an XRF Instrument the wire pictured here had the following readings:

• Lead (Pb): 113 +/- 56 ppm
• Bismuth (Bi): 211 +/- 97 ppm
• Tin (Sn): 120 +/- 50 ppm
• Zinc (Zn): 306,800 +/- 1,500 ppm
• Copper (Cu): 692,200 +/- 1,900 ppm
• Note: No other metals detected.
• 3-minute test (180-seconds)

Follow up testing had similar results. A second set of results came in with 110 +/- 51 ppm Lead.

Eight different types of bassoon reed wire were tested as part of this inquiry. Please click here to see all eight examples (from several different vendors / manufacturers) and their correlative XRF test results. 6 of the 8 samples were Lead-free and two tested positive for very low levels (trace amounts) of Lead.
