Things From Canada – Red Wooden Block: 4 ppm Lead. Safe by all standards.

| | | | | | | |

When tested with an XRF instrument this red painted wooden child’s building block (sent to me by a reader in Canada) had the following readings:

  1. Lead (Pb): 4 +/- 3 ppm
  2. Arsenic (As): Non-Detect / Negative
  3. Cadmium (Cd): Non-Detect / Negative
  4. Mercury (Hg): Non-Detect / Negative
  5. Antimony (Sb): Non-Detect / Negative
  6. Barium (Ba): 189 +/- 105 ppm
  7. Chromium (Cr): Non-Detect / Negative
  8. Selenium (Se): Non-Detect / Negative

All tests were done for a minimum of 60 seconds each – using a freshly calibrated Niton XRF instrument (an XL3T XRF testing in “consumer goods” mode). Tests were repeated multiple times on each component to confirm the results. All test results reported on this blog are science-based, accurate and replicable.

  1. I have a block set from t.c. Timber and train set. If you are open to testing a few more blocks from 1984 or so, I’d love to sent you some.
