1970s “Never Fear – Underdog is Here” Glass: 57,700 ppm Lead & 695 ppm Cadmium [90 ppm Lead is unsafe for kids.]

Vintage (1970s) "Never Fear - Underdog is Here" Glass: 57,700 ppm Lead & 695 ppm Cadmium [90 ppm Lead is unsafe for kids.]

The amount of Lead that is considered unsafe (and illegal) in newly manufactured items intended to be used by children is anything 90 ppm Lead or higher in the paint or coating and anything 100 ppm Lead (or higher) in the substrate.

When tested with an XRF instrument (with each test done for at least 2-minutes/120 seconds) this vintage (1970s) Underdog collectible juice glass had the following readings (metals not listed were not detected by the XRF instrument):

Black Painted Area:

  • Lead (Pb): 38,900 +/- 700 ppm
  • Cadmium (Cd): 39 +/- 8 ppm
  • Barium (Ba): 1,680 +/- 78 ppm
  • Chromium (Cr): 18,700 +/- 400 ppm
  • Zinc (Zn): 92 +/- 21 ppm
  • Copper (Cu): 5,558 +/- 160 ppm
  • Iron (Fe): 10,600 +/- 300 ppm
  • Titanium (Ti): 4,096 +/- 174 ppm
  • Platinum (Pt): 295 +/- 94 ppm
  • Cobalt (Co): 7,910 +/- 261 ppm

White Painted Area:

  • Lead (Pb): 48,400 +/- 900 ppm
  • Cadmium (Cd): 641 +/- 27 ppm
  • Barium (Ba): 1,683 +/- 87 ppm
  • Chromium (Cr): 1,279 +/- 92 ppm
  • Copper (Cu): 543 +/- 49 ppm
  • Iron (Fe): 1,441 +/- 149 ppm
  • Titanium (Ti): 18,200 +/- 600 ppm
  • Platinum (Pt): 441 +/- 111 ppm
  • Cobalt (Co): 783 +/- 91 ppm

Green Painted Area:

  • Lead (Pb): 38,600 +/- 700 ppm
  • Cadmium (Cd): 695 +/- 29 ppm
  • Barium (Ba): 1,811 +/- 88 ppm
  • Chromium (Cr): 1,497 +/- 91 ppm
  • Zinc (Zn): 224 +/- 28 ppm
  • Copper (Cu): 286 +/- 40 ppm
  • Iron (Fe): 1,070 +/- 135 ppm
  • Titanium (Ti): 17,400 +/- 600 ppm
  • Platinum (Pt): 394 +/- 104 ppm
  • Cobalt (Co): 514 +/- 81 ppm

Blue Painted Area:

  • Lead (Pb): 57,700 +/- 1,300 ppm
  • Cadmium (Cd): 477 +/- 26 ppm
  • Barium (Ba): 1,786 +/- 104 ppm
  • Chromium (Cr): 5,526 +/- 196 ppm
  • Zinc (Zn): 279 +/- 34 ppm
  • Copper (Cu): 278 +/- 45 ppm
  • Iron (Fe): 751 +/- 137 ppm
  • Titanium (Ti): 11,100 +/- 400 ppm
  • Platinum (Pt): 485 +/- 133 ppm
  • Cobalt (Co): 1,765 +/- 136 ppm

Clear Glass (base of glass):

  • Barium (Ba): 1,302 +/- 42 ppm
  • Bromine (Br): 12 +/- 2 ppm
  • Iron (Fe): 271 +/- 78 ppm
  • Vanadium (V): 387 +/- 27 ppm
  • Titanium (Ti): 822 +/- 46 ppm
