Oster® Master Series Pre-Programmed Blender with Reversing Blade Technology – Black.

This item consists of eight components made of distinct combinations of materials, some of which require multiple tests for thorough testing with an XRF instrument:
- Clear Glass Blender Jar
- Clear and Gray Plastic Main Part of Lid
- Gray Plastic “Insert” Part of Lid
- Gray Rubber Seal
- Black Plastic Jar Base (screws on)
- Metal Blade Assembly
- Black Plastic Base / Motor
- Electrical Cord Integrated into Base
For the testing I do intact components (for example the motor/base or the blade assembly) are not disassembled or destroyed, they are tested to the degree possible as an intact unit. This means I do not open the base of an electrical unit to test the interior workings of the motor and therefore the testing of the motor/base is all done on the outside (the accessible exterior parts of the unit) and the unit may or may not test positive for lead or other elements on the inside of the motor. This post will not address these inaccessible components (or other components that cannot be easily tested as a result of the geometry of the XRF instrument or the structure of the item being tested.)
To learn more about XRF testing, click here.
As I would have anticipated with an item like this (newly manufactured, primarily glass, metal and plastic) all components were negative for Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Arsenic (As), and Mercury (Hg).

NOTE: XRF testing is recognized by the Consumer Product Safety Commission as an acceptable and accurate way to screen consumer goods for potential toxicants. The Niton XL3T model that I use tests down to single digit parts per million for any metals detected.

Hello,
Is the metal ring around the blade inside the blender aluminum?
Thanks
Tamara says
Hi Katie. No. Please scroll down and read the full post for full XRF test results for each component – including the blade assembly.
Thanks for commenting.

I have a vintage Oster. Osterizer Cycle Blend. Model No. 890-68M. It’s a workhorse but now I fear it’s loaded with lead. Glass container. I use it for smoothies daily :-(. Thank you for all your work!
Katie says
Hi! Just to confirm this blender is a good option? I wanted to buy but the link doesn’t work. Could you provide an updated link. The other blenders that are lead free are so expensive so this seems look like a good budget option.

I personally would not purchase this due to the antimony. I know it’s basically unavoidable in the cord but why is it in the buttons and decorative elements? Makes me concerned about any small appliance with similar parts.
