This is Avi’s “Mother’s Day” note for me today! He wrote it in his yoga class yesterday morning! For those of you without a very young child [or a brain-injured 12-year-old] in your life, an English “translation” follows.
I share this with you for 1,000,001 reasons, but mostly to show you where he is with writing, given his brain injury (visual memory in the 4th percentile) from being acutely lead poisoned as a 7-month old baby.
If you have ever had a neuro-typical 6th grader in your life (Avi is 12-1/2 years old in July) you can reflect on how this writing sample might compare to your child’s. It makes me super-proud (and breaks my heart at the same time).

“Translation” of Avi’s Mother’s Day note to me:
“To Mom
from Avi
I love you and I think you are so amazing! I mean because you are able to handle so much. And I know how hard it’s been managing all of us and dealing with the investigation. I just [think] you are so amazing to handle all that.
P.S. Do not be depressed”.
