Have you had a chance to test the popular Munchkin 360 stainless steel sippy cups? They contain silicone on the top, with some plastic, and stainless steel. I wonder if any part of those contain any heavy metals….?
I want to know too!!!
Me 3!
Not that I recall. Here’s how most of the testing works here: https://tamararubin.com/2019/08/tamara-can-i-send-you-one-of-my-dishes-or-other-items-to-test-for-lead-yes-maybe-but-read-this-whole-post-first-thanks/
Yes, I believe they do contain lead. The thin bottom covering of my sons cup fell off years ago but I kept using it because it still functioned fine. I didn’t realize that companies are allowed to use lead solder in cups like this as long as it is not accessible to the consumer. When the bottom of my sons cup came off it exposed the solder point underneath. When I found out about lead solder I tested with an at home kit I picked up at Lowe’s. It was positive for lead. My son said he has picked at the solder point while drinking. I am sick to my stomach that I may have harmed my child. I contacted the company and they flat out refused to tell me if they use lead solder. They said it is proprietary information. I kept pushing them to tell me so they responded by asking me to mail the cup back to them and offered me a free $20 item from their website. It is beyond insulting. I just want to know if my son has been exposed to lead yet they refuse. I am so upset I’m not sure what my next move will be. I detest how many people sue in this country but I don’t know how to hold Munchkin accountable. Parents have a right to know if they use lead solder in case one of the cups become damaged. Toddlers drop cups so I’m not sure how Munchkin thought this would be acceptable. I’m not sure if this has happened to other parents but I think a class action lawsuit would be appropriate here. Parents should have a right to know if their child’s drinking cup contains lead.
Thank you for commenting!
That’s disgusting. I also used to use the Munchkin 365 cup. Never had the bottom detach or fall off, but its completely disgusting how these companies don’t have to say anything and aren’t held legally accountable until someone actually sues them. People laugh at California because of the prop65 laws and people suing often…but you know what? I can also understand why….otherwise these companies just don’t care!
I’d also like to know.
Were you able to test the munchkin stainless steel straw cups yet?
Yes, it was positive for lead. I contacted a law firm who was interested in researching the cups to possibly pursue a class action lawsuit. I just wanted Munchkin to let parents know. They refused but offered me a $20 gift card if I would return the cup to them. They refused to answer my direct question as to whether or not lead solder was used, regardless of the fact my son had been exposed for years.
