KitchenAid Whisk Attachment

| | | | | | | | | | |

KitchenAid whisk attachment: The top “nut” on this whisk attachment tested positive for lead at 274 parts per million (ppm.)

The level of lead that is considered unsafe for an item intended for children is 90 ppm lead. Items like this are not regulated for total lead content. I am NOT saying that this item will poison you, but I AM asking… why is there any lead at all in our kitchen items? Especially newly or recently manufactured kitchen items? Lead is one of the most potent neurotoxins known to man, it causes permanent brain damage in young children and does not belong in our kitchens.

  1. Have you tested the Kitchenaid small hand mixers? Thank you for all you do to help us be safe! Hope to hear from you soon.

  2. Hi Tamara,

I have just recently found your website and I never knew so many products were so toxic. I have been using many of your suggestions to make my kitchen safer since I cook and bake everyday for my family.

I just looked at your research on KitchenAid mixers and their attachments!! How appalling! My mixer is from 2013. I saw your suggestion for a replacement paddle, but I was wondering if you had any suggestions on stainless steel ones.

I called KitchenAid today to inquire about their stainless steel attachments and they said they needed up to a week to get back to me on exactly what metals are in these. They seemed as if they wanted to steer me away from the information by giving me the answer of “it could take some time”. I told them the safety of my family was priority over waiting. Should I trust the answer they give me in the end?

    1. The Stainless steel ones are ok – I will post test results for those asap. [But the company is horrid!]

  3. Thank you! I never knew! It seems like a reputable brand to trust and never thought about it until I ran across your website. Thank you for all the information!

I only ask about stainless steel because I would like to replace my whisk and bread hook as well and I don’t think the paddle you have on your website would be able to take the place of both those.

What about the bowl ? I have the metal bowl that came with it.

  4. So I still have the original wisk that came with our mixer and it doesn’t look like this at all. It is all the same color metal nothing looks different it looks the same as the one in the stainless kit. Mine was given to me as a wedding gift or shower gift in 1997. Should I be concerned about that one? My husband bought me a stainless paddle a few years ago and I have never even used our dough hook in the 25 years of owning the mixer

    1. So your top is bright and shiny (same as the whisk part) with no difference – like not gray or darker or more dull than the rest? If so it is possible all stainless, although if it is the standard size mixer (not the big one) I don’t think they were making these in all stainless back then. One way to check would be with a magnet. If a magnet does not stick to the top then the top is likely aluminum.

      1. Magnets do not stick to all stainless either. I have a stainless paddle that i bought from Kitchen aide but a magnet does not stick to it.
