Cassava Flour Comparison Chart
Published: November 29, 2025
The image on this page is a comparative chart of toxicant levels found in nine different Cassava Flour products (including tapioca flour and arrowroot starch) that we have tested and reported on to date.
Below, you’ll find links to each of the articles containing lab reports for the products included in this chart. The full original lab report is always at the very bottom of each article, AFTER the sharable social media graphic and after the list of lab-tested safer choices identified to date via the Lead Safe Mama, LLC Community Collaborative Laboratory Testing Initiative.
The products in this chart are arranged in ascending order based on their Lead level.
The articles which include the full original independent, third-party lab reports (testing and reporting done as part of the Lead Safe Mama, LLC Community Collaborative Laboratory Testing Initiative) for the Cassava Flours shown in this chart are linked below (scroll down).
–
Our Flour Chart page also links each of the lab reports for the flours shown in this chart (which is a new subset of the data from our main flour chart, with this chart only showing the cassava-origin flours — including tapioca and arrowroot). That link is also below.
Cassava Flour Testing Background:
We have consulted with hundreds of families whose children had “mysterious” sources of Lead poisoning.
–
Through many of these consultations over the past 6 years (since Gluten Free became more popular) we discovered that a child’s regular consumption of Cassava-Flour based products was the most likely source of their exposure.
–
This is why we chose to test most of these Cassava Flour products (so we would have a body of data to support this concern, a body of data which would hopefully encourage families to stop feeding their kids Cassava Flour).
–
We hope this chart will encourage you to look for alternatives to Cassava Flour. If you MUST use Cassava Flour (which I will never recommend you do) use one of the first three products (the one from Brazil might be a good option depending on what you are mixing it with to dilute the lead levels).
–
DO NOT use any of the products expressly marketed and sold with the words CASSAVA FLOUR on the package – those are the ones that tend to be positive for very high levels of Lead.
–
5 ppb Lead – or more – in a flour product that is used as a primary ingredient of a finished product (finished products like bread, pancakes, muffins, waffles, noodles, etc.) is a concerning amount of Lead in flour.
–
Remember:
–
1.) There is no safe level of Lead for human beings to consume, and the impact of Lead is cumulative over a lifetime.
–
2.) The half-life of Lead in blood is 30 to 45 days. Lead bio-mimics Calcium. From the blood it moves to being stored in the bones & soft tissue (including the brain)
–
3.) Lead does not continue to circulate in the blood, the body puts it to “use” thinking it is Calcium – which is the mechanism by which Lead causes damage to every biological structure and function that is in any way Calcium-dependent.

What now? My family has been regularly consuming Cassava Flour products!
If you or your children have consumed any of these products on a regular basis and have also tested positive for Lead in your blood, please consider reporting the product to the FDA. FDA Complaints by consumers who have actually used these products carry more weight than complaints that we file as an organization. Here’s the link to file an FDA Complaint:

If you have been using these products as primary components of your diet or your child’s diet, please talk to your doctor about getting Blood Lead Testing done as soon as possible. Here’s a link with more information about that:
