Updated: February 24, 2025 — Monday
A HUGE “Thank YOU!” shout out to the people who have made this possible! If you want to write them a thank you note here in the comments, I will share this link with the sponsors who have helped in this way so far! If you would like to join these sponsors by contributing funds (with a larger gift that we allocate across multiple nominated-but-not-yet-funded testing campaigns) in support of this work, please do be in touch. (Email Serina and she will make sure I see your note! — Serina@LeadSafeMama.com) Thank you! — Tamara

I just wanted to let you know that there is a type of pencil gaining popularity touted as “eco-friendly” and even marketed to kids. These are called “everlasting pencils” or “infinity pencils” or “inkless pencils”. These pencils use a metal nib to write on paper. Some manufacturers do admit the metal can have “trace amounts of lead” and therefore is not for children. On Amazon they are marketed for kids but claim it’s just compressed graphite. They can be erased and of course the erasers can spread whatever is on the nib. I think these really need to be investigated, especially if they are sold as “eco-friendly” and for kids.
