This blue-tinted drinking glass tested positive for traces of Antimony (a known carcinogen) and Iron. No other metals were detected in consumer goods mode. As mentioned in previous articles here on LeadSafeMama.com, we often find that in modern/ recently manufactured items Antimony has replaced Lead. This is especially true in glassware (and even more so in hand-blown glassware/ stemware). We frequently find high levels of Antimony (3,000 ppm to 10,000 ppm range) in high-end hand-blown glassware that is marketed and sold as “Lead-free.” The amount of Antimony in this glass is relatively low compared to those other findings. Total-content levels of Antimony in food-use items is not regulated in any way. Antimony was added to the list of known carcinogens in the United States in December 2021.
