Lead Safe Mama’s March 2023 Lead-Free Amazon Picks

Introduction (for those new to this website):

Tamara Rubin is a Federal-award-winning independent advocate for consumer goods safety and a documentary filmmaker. She is also a mother of Lead-poisoned children, her sons were acutely Lead-poisoned in 2005. Since 2009 Tamara has been using XRF testing (a scientific method used by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) to test consumer goods for toxicants (specifically heavy metals), including Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Antimony, and Arsenic. All test results reported on this website are science-based, accurate, and replicable. Items are tested multiple times, to confirm the test results for each component tested. Tamara’s work was featured in Consumer Reports Magazine in February of 2023.

Posted on Facebook as a Paid/Promoted Post (a new idea for income generation for Lead Safe Mama, LLC to help cover all costs related to the legal team supporting this work).

I created this post as a bit of an experiment to see if it might boost our Amazon affiliate income by promoting information like this to Lead Safe Mama, LLC’s readership and their friends on Facebook. Each month we work super hard to raise $$$ to help cover the cost of the legal team we have in place, due to the nature of the work we do. Our upcoming April 2023 legal bills are over $10,000 and we are working on paying down about $300,000 in debt related to our Federal Civil Rights Legal Battle (in which we are suing the State of Oregon in Federal Court for multiple counts of Civil Rights violations that attempted to destroy the advocacy work that we do.) Having a strong legal team in place and being in a position to pay these amazing people is key when so much of our work surrounds calling companies out for selling Lead-contaminated products.

I am publishing and promoting this post on Sunday, March 19th. Yesterday we earned $159.83 from Lead Safe Mama’s readers clicking our Amazon Affiliate links before they started shopping on Amazon— if we end up earning more via Amazon this month than we might have otherwise earned, I will make this ad monthly with different Lead-free selections each month.

[Please note: You don’t need to purchase any of the items that we link to in order for us to earn a percentage of what you spend (at no extra cost to you); if you just start any of your Amazon shopping by clicking on a Lead Safe Mama, LLC affiliate link (no matter what you are planning to buy) we may earn a percentage of whatever you spend — typically it is in the range of two to four percent! Please think of us when you are about to buy your monthly essentials (shampoo? toilet paper? laundry detergent?) or make any other Amazon purchases (birthday presents? holiday gifts? groceries?) Just click one of our links and continue your Amazon shopping as you normally would. Thank you!!

For those who are new here and who may question the legitimacy of our work (and specifically the legitimacy of the independent consumer goods testing that we do), here’s a link to the February 2023 Consumer Reports Magazine article featuring our work.

You can also check out our website (where we share full XRF test results for thousands of products), by starting with our Website Menu where you can explore many of the categories for testing we have done (from dishes to toys to tools to furniture).

  1. Love this post! would love to see more items. Hoping this creates the boost you’re looking for to make this a regular type of post! Just purchased a new house, and it’s a LOT to furnish (from furniture to kitchen items to decor, etc), so a list like this gives me some great options to start filling in my home.

  2. I love the idea of this post and appreciate your work. I’m just wondering if you could test and post some less expensive options. Surely there is a lead-free glass pitcher that costs less than $45. And can you explain why we should be using olive wood utensils as opposed to bamboo or other less expensive wooden utensils? Are there contaminants in bamboo and other woods that we should be concerned about? I know we should avoid items that have been glued or coated but otherwise what could the issues be? Thank you!

  3. Love this! Please, please continue to do these posts! They are so helpful! Is there a way to make Lead Free Mama our “amazon smiles” choice? About to search the site for the answer to this question.
