File this under “stuff I bought for my family”: this is our piece-of-crap toaster
Wednesday – February 8, 2023
People ask me about toasters and other appliances all of the time. I hate appliances. As you can see with all of the KitchenAid nonsense – there are so many variables and most appliances test positive for at least some toxicants in at least one component (usually at least Antimony in the power cord as a flame retardant.) For this and many other reasons I hate recommending appliances and don’t feel like I can recommend them wholeheartedly in a way that is consistent with my work.
That said, this is the piece-of-crap toaster we bought for our family – for $18.78 in November of 2019. https://amzn.to/3YiJdKo (aflink) The price has more than doubled since we bought it, but ours has not broken in all this time (no issues – it keeps going!) and toasts bagels just fine (which is the most important feature for us – lol). It’s inexpensive (even with the recent price hike.) It’s not fancy. It doesn’t have toxicant concerns that are different from any other similar appliance. There you go. I will put the link in Instagram stories and highlights today too.

Hi, would you say all toasters are the same as in lead free? Thanks!
No
Have you done a post on toasters? How can we know what to look for and what to avoid please? I’m moving in and buying a new toaster so it’s the perfect time to look for a lead free one
Any toaster oven recommendations?
Thank you in advance.
