You posted a recommendation for ascot tea kettle saying nothing inside touched the water but stainless steel and glass. There is a plastic ring inside on the bottom. You can fell it if you put a knife in along the bottom. That means boiling water is boiling on plastic and then poured in your tea or coffee. Please update this information. I had to return two.
This is the silicon seal made of the same clear white silicone in the spout, which was tested and free of toxicants. My eyesight is not the best at 53 years old and while I did see the seal, it was inaccessible and I did not notice there was a water contact point. I do state that I test all accessible components. If you are not comfortable with a gasket made of toxicant-free silicone I understand. We (my husband and I) are comfortable with that based on the other alternatives and the mix of what we have in our kitchen). We also use an all glass stove top option sometimes, but since I broke my leg two years ago, having the quick boil kettle has been a great asset to our kitchen. Other ways to have that function would be to have a boiling hot water spout at your sink, which I know many homes do.
The focus of any products I might recommend is primarily on one point: Is there Lead (or other toxicants) in any component of it. Not so much on function. My husband handles that part of things – I am not in the kitchen much since I spend most of my time online helping families. I will have him take look to see if our gasket touches the water (I am not sure that it does) and I will have him update the article accordingly.
