I created the embedded video (below) because dozens of Lead Safe Mama readers informed me that Taylor Swift had included a vintage (LEADED!) Butterfly Gold pattern Corelle plate in one of the scenes in her latest video “Anti-Hero”. In response to this I wrote this post and shared this little video (on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook), tagging Taylor Swift. It would be great to get someone as influential as Taylor Swift on board with the cause!
WATCH WITH SOUND ON PLEASE
- Hey @taylorswift – I just wanted you to know that these vintage Corelle Butterfly Gold dishes (that you featured in your recent video for “Anti-Hero”) have unsafe levels of Lead in the decorative elements on the food surface.
- There’s no safe level of lead exposure for humans.
- Corelle admits these dishes have Lead but says it’s a “small amount” of Lead – but the USCPSC has set 90 ppm Lead as the maximum allowable amount of lead in the paint, glaze or coating of an item intended for use by children – because all federal agencies agree there is no safe level of lead exposure for humans.
- So while 14,000 ppm might seem like a small amount in some context, 14,000 ppm LEAD on the food surface of a vintage dish is NOT a small amount.
- The impacts of trace / background / low-level lead exposure on women of child bearing age include infertility and birth complications (including miscarriage and low birthweight in newborns.)
- All of the science supporting this is in my website at LeadSafeMama.com and in my documentary film (linked in my Instagram highlights.)
- I’d love the opportunity to chat with you about this.

Great work raising this and I very much hope Taylor Swift engages with your campaign. 14,000 ppm looks scary, but I think we need evidence to show how much lead will come off these plates in normal use including when worn. Don’t leave the lead deniers with a loophole to use!
