This (the dictionary pictured) is Charlie’s big splurge birthday present this year (for his 14th birthday). He was SO excited to get this in the mail today (aflink: https://amzn.to/3P3KAYv) He loves words, vocabulary, word games, and is excited to become a better speller. He also has communicated that he 100% does not EVER want a cell phone or computer(!)
This year for the birthday we are breaking from tradition a bit (he’s been so depressed because of the pandemic, and we wanted to cheer him up)…so he is getting one present every day from July 1 through his actual birthday – July 15th! But this Dictionary was the main “BIG, SUBSTANTIAL” gift (when it arrived, my husband carried in the “mystery package”, and asked – “What is in this box — did someone send you some LEAD BRICKS?!”).
People always want to know how I avoid Lead when purchasing presents for my kids – well, here you go!
I will write a more detailed post listing all of his presents this year. In the meantime, here’s what he got last year, too (for his 13th birthday) – in case you need some heavy metals neurotoxicants-free ideas for the kiddos in your life!: https://tamararubin.com/2021/07/all-of-the-things-my-family-bought-for-my-son-charlies-13th-birthday-next-week-my-baby-will-be-13-on-july-15-2021/

Did you test the dictionary for lead?

You two are so creative. I remember you felt soooo bad missing his 5th birthday when we were filming in New Orleans. You long ago made up for it.
