I have some exciting news! This month (April 2022) I was (for the first time) able to get my hands on the refurbished (new-to-us) XRF Instrument that is owned by Lead Safe Mama, LLC! Our first (of two) refurbished instrument was sent back to us and tested and is [at long last!] in EXCELLENT working order! The second instrument is still in the hands of the manufacturer for refurbishment [they have had it since February, actually] so we are just waiting to hear a status report on that one, as well.
This is so very exciting, because owning our own instrument (with paperwork confirming the recent factory refurbishment) makes it possible to register this instrument in multiple locations — so that we can do more outreach events; corporate consulting; and home consultations! As of this month, we have filed paperwork to use our new instrument in New York, Oregon, and California — and will add more States into the mix, in the months to come. We are also looking into the possibility of doing outreach events (with free consumer goods testing available to the public) in Europe, and beyond!
While this means we will (eventually) no longer have all of the outrageous costs related to renting instruments, we do still need to raise $12,500 to pay off the remainder of the loan we originally received to cover the costs of having these instruments refurbished.
In the past month we were able to generate enough “extra” (beyond our basic business costs) to make the first $2,500 payment against the original $15,000 loan. If we can line up enough work / outreach events / consultations for May, June, and October we will likely be able to pay $5,000 more towards that loan by the end of June – and the remainder later this summer!
To this end I am writing to remind you of the May 2022 travel dates in Southern California (noted in the image above; please load remote content for this e-mail if you cannot see the schedule). We currently have four families interested in home consultations in May [but no confirmations yet]. Earning this money and repaying this loan is a priority for us, and so – I am willing to drive up to 3 hours from LAX (in any direction) that week to help meet that goal.
We are also currently working on a June 10 – 15th New York trip – with at least two stops pending — (including a public outreach event in Queens in the works!)
If you are in New York, Southern California (or Oregon / Washington State), please let me know now if you are interested in hiring me in May or June.
Looking further out… we are now taking reservations for dates in October — Lead Poisoning Prevention Month, and for now [today, as I write this – before this year’s October events calendar & route begins to solidify] any State in the Country is still possible!
October will be focused primarily on doing Lead Safe Mama outreach events in conjunction with nonprofits — specifically, children’s museums and science museums across the country; we have some sponsorship funds specifically pledged to help cover the costs of those events , and are working on lining up locations this coming week!* [We are however still committed to making time in October for one-on-one home consultations for any families who need our help (which will obviously be easier to accomplish by reserving a date as far in advance as is possible)].
Thanks for reading. Thank you for helping to make the success of Lead Safe Mama, LLC (a unique community collaborative, woman-owned small business for childhood Lead-poisoning prevention and consumer goods safety) possible!

* If you happen to work with a child-focused nonprofit which might be a good candidate for hosting one of our outreach events [some-or-all of the funding for which is already in place through pledged sponsorships!] in October, please do let me know! 🙂

It would be amazing to come the Children’s Museum and the Sloan Museum in Flint! Last time we were at the Children’s museum there were a few giant tractor tires outside for playing and painting on. The Sloan museum had an antique car for kids to climb in.
