I actually have bought TWO hardcover copies of the Joy of Cooking since the pandemic started! One was purchased for Avi (my 16 year old) since a primary learning activity for him during the pandemic has been teaching himself to cook. I then bought a second copy for my son A.J. (my 18 year old) to have at his apartment in Boston. It’s really one of the most important books for kids to have in their library if they are going to become self-sufficient independent adults. Teaching Avi how to use the book has also been a learning experience in itself (so he is learning how to use an index and glossary and how to look things up under different possible categories.) He’s also learning the importance of reading the whole recipe first so he knows where he needs to end up (before he starts cooking!) I never have concerns for Lead with recently manufactured / printed paperback or hardcover books. Aflink: https://amzn.to/3bZA9n3
Vintage books can be a Lead concern (and I would never use a vintage cookbook while cooking). You can read more about that here – link.
