Instagram Messenger Exchange
Tuesday, February 16, 2021
Approximately 7:20 p.m. PST

I thought my readers would like to see this exchange. I have been doing a lot of polite arguing with people today about the concern for unsafe levels of Lead and salt. I may have just snapped a little bit when I got this message (this girl obviously has no idea about my history with the company.) Full screenshots of the conversation are below.

Hey Tamra
Your Instagram is an awesome and I appreciate the good you are doing to help everyone navigate through their health journey. Wanted to also ask about your recent story you shared on lead in salt . Did you have all the different kinds of salt independently tested ? Curious what lab was used …… we love to nerd out on salt and all that salt is and it sounds like you have a passion for getting all the details too. I would love to share with you some REAL data on our REAL SALT! We care a lot about providing the best products and we are always sure to do testing and COA of all our products.  Can I please email you our analysis ? Here’s my email if you have anymore questions!

❤️, Julie

(typos corrected)

I’ve met the owner of your company. I don’t like him. We don’t get along. He has a history of misleading customers with your product packaging and language when it comes to Lead. When he gets his shit together and starts treating this like it is a real serious problem and stops being so dismissive – we could maybe chat. In the meantime I would encourage everyone in your company to watch my film (all 92 minutes, to the end) and then seriously rethink the language you are using when it comes to sharing about the Lead content of your products and / or your publicly dismissive language about the significance of Prop 65 language. Here’s the link to my film: https://tamararubin.com/2021/01/my-film-passed-300000-views-on-youtube-today-heres-the-link-to-watch-it-if-you-have-not-yet/

You can email your analysis if you like: tamararubin@mac.com – I will look at it.

I expect you are likely new to my work. Here’s the history of posts I have written that relate to Earthpaste: https://tamararubin.com/category/earthpaste/please click through and read all of them as well as the comments.

I heard that there is a lawyer in California considering filing a lawsuit against Redmond over this (specifically prop 65 labeling history and language dismissing the importance of prop 65 in public statements). I am not sure where it stands – but I really suggest you all do better to address this. The world is watching. They want you to do the right thing.

It’s a long history
Mostly over earthpaste

I always tell my readers that you all are one of the worst companies out there when it comes to blatant greenwashing

Update

In light of more B.S. and lies from Redmond this week – I wanted to re-share the full series of screenshots from Instagram for the above (February 2021) conversation (including the date and time stamps, which were not included in the above screenshots we shared originally).

Not only do these screenshots (below) show the date and time stamps of my response – demonstrating that my response to Redmond was relatively immediate, but these screenshots also show that the person I was having the exchange with SAW the exchange – note the word “seen” at the bottom of the final image, as well as all of the little “hearts” she commented with (therefore demonstrating she received the information that I sent to her). There is some overlap in these screenshots so you can see how they connect in sequence. This is the clickable link for the article linked at the bottom of the final screenshot.

  1. this has been the only salt that we use thinking it is super high quality! There is lead in it?!

  2. Hi Tamara! What are your thoughts regarding some lead not being bioavailable in certain foods, salt, etc? Would appreciate hearing what you know about this because I find it to be confusing. As always, thank you for all that you’re doing to educate the public!

  3. Hi Sarah; in case you are anyone else was still wondering about lead bioavailability the answer can be found in this post: https://tamararubin.com/2017/03/toothpaste-conversation/

The post ironically concerns lead in Redmond’s Earthpaste, however in the last paragraph Tamara states:

“All lead in all of its forms is bioavailable to some degree. Said another way, each type of lead has some percentage that is bioavailable. There is no form of lead that is 100% not bioavailable.”

If you know any people making these claims that link to actual studies, or you have any documents yourself please share them. Perhaps there is new information since Tamara wrote the Earthpaste posts; not that I would ever trust Redmond!

  4. Did she ever email the analysis? We would love to see it. Evidence from legitimate scientific studies is everything. It’s one thing to make statements sharing opinions, but without backup citing reliable sources, statements and opinions are meaningless.

    1. She did not! Never heard back from them (they just posted lots of greenwashing stuff on their website in response!) 🙂

    1. I’d like to know this, as well. We have bought and consumed many products from this company. I had seen the warning on the packages(even on other items-electronics), but I didn’t realize the significance of this warning that is on products until reading on this website what has been researched/tested/shared.

  5. Hi Tamara! I’m really big into this salt investigation right now and Redmond specifically. What was the end of this debate? Did they ever respond, or send the analysis? Westin a price brought the “salt king” for an interview and talked all about his salt. Which confuses me bc Westin a price foundation is like, the holy grail for nutrition. Would love to chat with you about this, thank you so much!

  6. Did u test the salts you discuss your self or did they send you a COA? For example Jacobsen’s claims to be less than 30ppb but won’t share their COA .

  7. After finding out more about this company I used my bag of their salt to salt my sidewalk so I wouldn’t slip and fall on the ice.
