As always, please let me know if you have any questions. In the interest of getting a bunch of XRF test results up online for my readers quickly, this post does not have too much information (just the test results) – but please click through to the related posts using the keywords at the top of the page for more discussion about the concerns for Antimony in bedding (and Antimony in food packaging as well.)
Science!
All readings reported on this blog were for tests done for at least 60 seconds, unless otherwise noted. Tests on each component were repeated multiple times, to confirm that the results reported are accurate, science-based, and replicable.
Is this much Antimony a problem?
The amount of Antimony found in this particular mattress is quite high [especially when compared to other mattresses I have tested – and actually among the highest levels of Antimony that I have ever found in any consumer item I have tested]. My educated guess is that this level of Antimony is an indicator that the mattress was doused with Antimony-based flame retardants. To see more mattresses I have tested and reported on, click here.
What type of mattresses do you use in your home, Tamara?
In the past year, my family has finally “graduated” to mostly having non-toxic Naturepedic mattresses in our home. Two of my boys currently share a Naturepedic Queen, and my husband and I sleep on a Naturepedic split-California-King (with each side of the bed having a different level of firmness). My husband and I have been sleeping like teenagers [everyone knows babies don’t really sleep, lol, so I am not going to say “sleeping like a baby”!] ever since we started sleeping on our new Naturepedic mattress several weeks ago. Here’s a link to a post with pictures of our new Naturepedic bed.
[I am also now an affiliate for Naturepedic — and if you purchase one of their beds starting with a link from my site (here’s a link!) I will receive a small percentage of what you spend at no extra cost to you! Thank you for supporting my advocacy work in this way.]
Thank you for reading and for sharing my posts.
