1974 Vintage Fisher Price Cash Register Toy
Below are the XRF test results for the item pictured here. Each component was tested for a minimum of 60 seconds. Test results are science-based and replicable.
For context:
- 90 ppm Lead (and above) is the current level that is considered toxic and illegal in newly manufactured items intended for use by children.
- 40 ppm Cadmium (and above) is the level of Cadmium that is considered unsafe (and illegal) in consumer goods in Washington State.
- 75 ppm Cadmium (and above) is the level of Cadmium that is considered unsafe (and illegal) in consumer goods in the country of Denmark (which I understand is not for sale ;-).)

This is the most heartbreaking one! One that was handed down from a cousin, that I specifically saved for my future child, and now that I’m a mom I’m finding out that all the old toys are full of lead. And that record player! Hours of play with that thing! Can’t help but wonder if my own body was affected back then… thank you for doing this work. It’s sad that I can’t give my little boy these toys I’ve saved but it’s impowering to know about it all.
