My friend Jess (in Southern California) makes this wonderful all-Organic peppermint lip balm (using food-grade organic ingredients). Jess and I met when she came to a outreach event I did (doing free testing of consumer goods for everyone who came to the event) in Orange County years ago. She’s now one of my best friends and – when I go to Southern California for my work helping families – she often lets me sleep on her couch to help me save $ (in support of the cause!)
In 2018 she shared a bunch of these custom lip balms that she makes with me. I was looking for something non-reactive to give to my son Avi (to help him with his skin issues) — and we all absolutely loved it. If something passes the “Avi test”, you know it has to be good! He’s super-sensitive (and super-picky too, because of his SPD and OCD).
Jess offered to make a custom batch of these just for us, branded with my Lead Safe Mama logo – and that’s the story behind our first-ever Lead Safe Mama-branded product!
They’re $4 each — or $30 when you buy 10. Shipping to most areas in the U.S. is $2.50. Jess willsend 50% of the proceeds from the sale of these lip balms to Lead Safe Mama, LLC in support of our advocacy work (including helping to cover the cost of the independent consumer goods XRF testing we do!) By purchasing these lip balms from Jess – in addition to supporting Lead Safe Mama, LLC, you are also supporting a single-mama owned business making (small-batch, organic) products right here in the U.S. of A!
Ingredients:
- Organic Coconut Oil
- Organic Beeswax
- Organic Olive Oil
- Organic Shea Butter
- Organic Peppermint Essential Oil
Thank you for considering supporting this Lead-Poisoning Prevention advocacy work in this way & I hope you appreciate this safer, all-Organic choice for your family!

Link to purchase 10 or more #LeadSafeMama lip balms (for $30 for 10.)
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
We would like to (eventually) offer these in a recyclable cardboard tube (instead of a standard plastic tube), but the wholesale pricing we have found for those tubes is so high that it would make these outrageously expensive for anyone to buy. If you know anyone who makes or distributes natural fiber cardboard tube blanks for lip balms (and ideally someone who might be interested in donating a bunch for this effort), that would be amazing. Please put them in touch with me.

This sounds wonderful for my husband and me. But my child is severely allergic to all tree nuts, peanuts, and some seeds, so I was wondering if it is possible to make this lip balm with a different oil instead of coconut oil. Thanks.
Tamara says
Oh! I will ask Jess and get back to you! Thank you for the idea.

Yes, I m allergic to peppermint oil, thus I have never been able to use Burt’s Bees balm or most natural balms as they all seem to have this. So I use plain old chapstick. Would like to have something more natural. Let me know if you make one! and thanks for all you do~
Tamara says
K! Will keep you posted on that! Thank you for the input!

“…(and super-picky too, because of his SPD and OCD).” He has SPD: schizoid personality disorder?!
Tamara says
SPD = Sensory Processing Disorder

Hello, do you know how long these chapstick are good for before they expire?
Tamara says
Oh that’s a good question. I will ask Jess!
