Lead-Safe Crystal Mobile Set, Tested in 2018

While I don’t have concern for this sort of item poisoning a child (unless it is actually high lead) it is very interesting to note the different metals that make up each of the different types of crystals.

I do have a concern for the high lead crystal ones (which can be as much as 300,000 ppm lead) as they can present a significant hazard to children in multiple ways (dust and ingestion hazards).

  • Lead (Pb): Non-Detect / Negative
  • Cadmium (Cd): Non-Detect / Negative

  • Iron (Fe): 235 +/- 112

Colorful Tiny Crystals (clustered together, too small to test separately without disassembling the mobile, the red was centered in the scope of the XRF and the cadmium reading is likely from the red crystal) [image below]:

  • Arsenic (As): 65 +/- 23 ppm
  • Mercury (Hg): Non-Detect / Negative
  • Barium (Ba): 17,600 +/ 600 ppm
  • Antimony (Sb): 1,148 +/- 84 ppm
  • Selenium (Se): 279 +/- 49 ppm
  • Zinc (Zn): 16,100 +/- 500 ppm
  • Copper (Cu): 1,496 +/- 121 ppm
