OMG Ms. Rubin,
My friend back east sent me this link regarding old dishes and I told her that I have been collecting “shards” of TEPCO on the beach here in El Cerrito CA, in the east bay. I’ve also brought my grandkids looking at this as an archeological adventure. Is this a terrible idea???? Have you heard of this beach? There is so much discarded china. Is it tainting the water? I can’t believe that here where we live we had layers of lead tainted soil removed from the yard and then have I put the kids in harms way??
Tamara says
Yeah – those are pretty high-lead across the board. I don’t think collecting them to date would have caused harm – but I would not continue collecting them and I would throw them out. Shells and rocks are better choices from a toxicant perspective!
