Vintage (1960s/1970s) green glass Indiana Glass Kings Crown thumbprint design sorbet dish: Lead Free!

This little green glass ice-cream dish / custard cup tested NEGATIVE for Lead (Pb) when tested with a high-precision XRF instrument testing in “consumer goods” mode. This is actually one of the items I bought for my book [not yet published, title: I Make Women Cry and Throw Out Their Shit”], fully expecting it to test positive for a high amount of lead! #Surprise! This is a really great example demonstrating that Lead-free vintage items do exist (and that Lead-free colorful glass items do exist!)

Tamara, I really appreciate your feedback here on this website I grew up with these Indiana glass tableware as a kid my granny had the Ruby Red color Indiana dishes & another set in light pink for Easter Indiana dishes. My mother had the amber Indiana dishes. Both have past already before i turned 18 years of age, the dishes couldn’t be found. I just started to purchase some tumblers recently I was so happy to read your discovery here that theses are lead free Indiana Dish ware now, I can start looking for the complete set for our Thanksgiving Table. I have good memories about the dinner plates cups and tumblers as a child I had always set the table for the holidays when my loved ones were a live, I have always admired the Amber color it reminds me of my beloved Granny & Mother. Thank you Tamara for sharing this on your website.
Hi my name is Frank! This is 3+years old post im responding to so it may be moot what i am responding to you for, but here it goes. I have a few random pieces 1 green sorbet cup ,1 beautiful blue candleholder, but i also have a full set of amber dessert goblets! I may, not have correct terminology of these. But i just rediscovered and almost put in the garage a gorgeous amber deviled egg platter! So cool but to think how specific an item is just crazy! Im at near clinical horder status and was going to donate them… would you like them? Your story i know all to well. I’m in Houston and have no clue if your even in the states? We’ll see what happens. ✌️
I have recently been given a set of the Indiana green / King Crown thumbprint set… There is 6 serving plates 12 dessert (?) Plated….4 large goblets / wine looking ones…..11 medium goblets…4 small ones…. 1 glass and 1 small bowl, perhaps like a sugar bowl….
Hi Mir,
If they look like this one I expect they are also likely to be Lead-free and safe for food use.
Tamara
Hi Tamara, I have the same Indiana glassware pattern but mine are in the amber color. Do you know if those are also safe?
Thank you so much for this website.
