Noritake China Saucer: 933 ppm lead (+/- 86 ppm), ND (non-detect) for Hg (mercury), As (arsenic0 & Cd (cadmium)! Most vintage Noritake china I have tested has been positive for high levels of lead.

“F” = I would not want to use it in my home, I would (politely) refuse to eat food that you served on it in your home. I would advise you to chuck it. Vintage glazed china with high lead levels has often been found to leach unsafe levels of lead into the food being served in/on it. Drinking coffee from the cup that goes with this saucer would be a definite “no-no” in my book!
Note: the amount of lead that is considered safe in an item intended for children is anything below 90 ppm lead, this is far above 90 ppm lead!

Just the roses? My Noritake is plain white with gold trim. I also have plain white pfaltzgraf. Perhaps they’re not so bad.
This post is just for this particular piece of china, which I personally have tested. Most vintage china (from the 1990s and before – if you want to call 90s vintage) is high lead. Plain white or not, it doesn’t matter. Look up “White Cermamic” using the search bar on my blog here and you will find many other plain white items of several brands that I have tested.
I finally replaced my Noritake Carmella pattern China after years of searching…it was purchased in 1949….originally….the replacement Co. Offers money back if requested….I looked at your testing….I am torn……???

I have just bought a set of Noritake N955 from an estate sale. It has blue & brown flowers on it. I believe it was made in the 60s to 70s. Would it have lead in the paint or finish?

My mom has a collection of Noritake Ireland China. Nanking #2860 design. 1977-1985 manufacturing date. Any idea as to it’s lead content, or if a home lead test kit could work with it??? Thanks!
Hi Joan! Thank you for commenting. A home kit will likely not work with it and given the age it is likely very high lead. Of course I cannot say for sure – but that’s like a “high period” for heavy use of Lead in china!

I inherited a set of Noritake paisley from 1917-1921. It has many colors including gold and red in the pattern. So I’m assuming it’s high lead. Is it safe to keep for decor?

I knew some colorful china and pottery have high lead such as mt Bauer bowls. I got rid of them. But I have been using Noritake Running Free pattern for years. Can you tell me if it is safe? I am worried about using it, especially with my grandchildren. Thank you.

Just got back a 12 piece evermore Noritake bone China 9735. From the 1980. Do you know if it has lead.
I inherited 12 place settings of Noritake China number 5675 Goldkin with an N initial on the back and That it was made in Japan. It was probably originally bought in the 1940s or 1950s by my aunt who was married in Japan. Is there a way of telling whether this may have lead in it? Thanks
