Newly made / recently made costume jewelry made and sold as intended for children is usually lead free, but not always. Note: when making choices for children, please avoid ALL vintage costume jewelry as it is nearly always VERY HIGH in both lead and cadmium and often high in mercury as well. This includes vintage faux pearls. When possible consider buying sterling silver jewelry for children, with natural stones instead of crystal or enamel decorative elements.
