When tested with an XRF instrument the Nuby Teether pictured in this post (purchased new in 2013) was Lead Free (NonDetect/ ND for Pb). It was also non-detect for Arsenic, Cadmium & Mercury. This finding is consistent with all newer plastic baby products made after 2011. Outside of the concern for other toxicants in plastics – from a metals perspective (specifically with the concern being for the four metals listed above) I would not have any concern with new plastic products (including tethers) manufactured for use by babies  – as long as they are made by a known reputable company and sold by a known retailer or direct from the company (not shipped direct from China – as items shipped direct from China can be counterfeit and unsafe.)
