Starbucks 2011 Ceramic Lined Travel Mug- (broke in shipping).
Inside of mug / white ceramic liner / the part that touches the coffee:
63,549 ppm Lead (ummmm huh!?).
The above number is the level of Lead found when testing the mug using XRF technology. To learn more about XRF testing, Click HERE.
For context: The amount of lead that is considered toxic in an item intended for use by children is anything 90 ppm Lead or higher in the paint or coating or anything 100 ppm Lead (or higher) in the substrate. Mugs are not considered to be items intended for children and are not regulated for Lead content in the same way that children’s items are.
I would have definite concerns for a coffee mug like this that tested positive for 63,549 ppm Lead. While it may have been leach tested and determined to be safe (from a toxicity standpoint) at the time of manufacture, with Lead levels this high combined with the normal intended use of the product (daily use for coffee, which is a highly acidic beverage) my educated guess is that a product like this would likely eventually (sooner-rather-than-later) begin to leach unsafe levels of Lead into the contents of the cup.

Hi Tamara,
My husband uses a stainless insulated Starbucks travel cup with a screw on lid and hold for a straw. It is about a 30 ounce volume. Have you ever tested something like this from Starbucks? He uses it every day so wondering if it’s safe now?
Thanks!
Jeanne
