even the heating element is lead free?
Tamara says
I didn’t ever test the heating elements on the crock pots, sorry about that. I didn’t know it was a concern when I tested these.

Hello, there, Tamara,
How do I know for the Crockpot from recent years? Unfortunately, I just purchased a brand new crockpot before seen your recommendation for the InstaPot.
I contacted the manufacturer so we will see…

Tamara,
I see this is a 2013 model. do you think the models currently for sale are also lead free? Thanks for your work.
Tamara says
I don’t have an opinion yet because I have not tested enough from the same year or across many years that are the exact same product. So I generally steer clear since I have found so many to have lead. That said the amount of lead is very very low, but to cook something for long periods of time in these things (even with the low levels) does not sit well with me.
Britt says
Do you use a slow cooker in your home? If so, which one do you use?
Tamara says
We have found that the Instant Pot is the lowest-lead option out there:
Here’s my amazon affiliate link: https://amzn.to/2PmKnQY
Here’s my post on that: https://tamararubin.com/2018/08/asktamara-does-your-instant-pot-have-lead-xrf-test-results-for-a-6-quart-instant-pot-purchased-in-july-2018-from-amazon/

Hi Tamara,
Is the 8 quart the same as the 6 quart?
Lorena Elizabeth Garcia says
Is any instant pot the lowest? or it has to be this specific quart size?
Sherry says
Is a slow cooker really the same as a Instapot because Crockpots and Slow Cookers differ as the meat isny as tender when cooked in Crockpots in my opinion and I know nothing about Instapots but would love a lead free Slow Cooker.

Hi, thank you for all that you do! I am thinking of using the liner of my old crock pot as a planter for house plants. Once I give my plants a “home” I rarely move them, or touch the pots. Do you think this would be a problem? (No young kids in my home now.)
Tamara says
Hi Susan, thanks for commenting. I think as long as it is not an edible plant that is probably fine.

Tamara is there a way to know the year a crockpot was made .. I have one given to me like the one in the picture and am low on money these days and there’ are numbers on the bottom and so I wonder if they will tell me when it was made
Jen says
Hi Tamara, thanks for sharing your important testing and research! What is the model# on the lead free crockpot?
Tamara says
This is a very old post and I did not capture that information at the time – sorry!

Can you please do a current test on slow cookers? I like slow cookers and I would like to have the safest one for my family. You have some that you tested but they are old crock pots. Can you go to the brand that was the safest and check a few different and current years so we can determine if we have a brand that is reliable please?? Thank you
Karen says
I love using my crockpot. I would like to know the safest new crockpot to use. I see that the Insta pot is the safer options. They make me nervous. I just can’t bring myself to use one
Annie says
Ditto! Does using the Reynolds liners with them help?

Hello! I am wondering if stainless steel crockpots would be considered safe- such as the 360 crockpot? Thank you!
Gaye says
Hi Tamara, I need to purchase a new crockpot very soon. Is any instant pot safe? I would prefer a 4 quart if possible.
I look forward to your reply. Thank you so much for all your advice. It is exceedingly helpful.
