Hi Tamara! I appreciate all you are doing. But I’m so confused. I called Corelle to ask about this and she told me that they never made mugs in Thailand. Have you talked to them about this?
Tamara says
These were purchased as part of a boxed set of dishes from Kmart. They say Corelle and they say Thailand… so… it sounds like the person you spoke to is mistaken. They probably outsourced the mugs.

I have red Corelle mugs that are very similar to the blue, and they say made in China. Do you think they could be similar?
Tamara says
Yes – I would expect they would also be positive for lead.

Hi! what mugs are safe to use? I am looking for the mug that are free of lead and any other harmful chemicals.
Thanks!

Hi Sony,
Here’s my Lead-free mug post: https://tamararubin.com/2016/12/which-ceramic-coffee-mugs-are-lead-free/
There are also a lot of choices on the blog from things I have tested: https://tamararubin.com/category/leadfreemug/

Tremendous work!
You tested two of these blue Thailand-made Corelle stoneware/ceramic mugs, differentiated only by “dark blue” vs. “blue” (they appear very similar). One tested 95ppm, this one 1,585ppm.
Is this attributable to normal production variability, wear, or what?
My mugs are identical Corelle, but made in China. I wouldn’t expect them to be much different.
Thanks for your efforts!

I purchased the white Corelle dishes in 2013; the mugs were stoneware/ceramic. They’re the only part of the set indicating “Made in China.” Would their lead content be similar to the colored the blue or red, regardless of whether or not they are white?

I have the Corelle set that came with this blue coffee cup. They have blue hearts on white plates……have you checked them?
Also, I bought a set of “certified international “ set of dishes. They are glazed and have bright colors with olives. Have you ever checked that brand?
One last concern….I have a new “ Royal Albert” tea for one in old country roses. Have you tested any of the tea for one? The newer cups are no longer made in England, but China and I think one other place.
Thank you for your help,
Laynie

I came upon your site after I had just ordered some Mugs from the Corelle dot com site. After I received the mugs, I saw where they were made, and I requested by email a Return postage label because I was concerned. In their email reply, they did not include a return postage label, but went on to state that they test their products, etc., etc.. I wish I could have uploaded their email here for you to read. (The mugs cost $20. I was charged $6.99 for the initial shipping, and at their site, the Return Postage Label costs $8. I’m not going to pay a total of $14.99 to return $20 worth of Corelle mugs, so if you’d like them for testing, just let me know!)

Oh! Very interesting. Thanks for commenting. What color are they? Could you email me a photo? TamaraRubin@mac.com

I have light blue corelle mugs 8 of which were made in China. I bought 3 on eBay not knowing that corelle mugs were also sold by corelle Asia. Those are marked Thailand on the bottom. Corelle customer service said Corelle USA sold mugs from China. Are any of these mugs safe from lead? Corelle didn’t seem to know especially mugs sold by Corelle Asia with Thailand on the bottom
Thank you
