A Quick Note From Tamara Rubin

Below you will find a comparative chart showing the lab test results for each of the herbal tea products we have tested in the form of dried tea (products that are purchased in tea bag form, where we have removed the dry tea from the tea bag for independent, third-party laboratory testing). There are currently lab test results for five herbal tea products included in this chart as of the date of publishing. The links for each of the published full original lab reports are in the numbered list below.

As always – to see the full original lab report for each noted product, click the link for the article for that product and scroll down to the very bottom of the article. The lab reports are always BELOW the sharable social media graphic and BELOW the list of Lab Tested Safer Choices that is embedded in each article.

As with all of the lab test results we share, we will take a moment reiterate the key point: All relevant federal agencies have published statements that are in agreement with the consensus in the scientific and medical communities that there is no safe level of Lead exposure for human beings.

Given the concern for heavy metals exposure from daily / regular consumption of herbal tea products has not been well studied, and given anything labeled a “supplement” (including a “supplement tea”) are not well regulated as far as heavy metals contamination goes (including the potential long-term negative health impacts from daily consumption of these lead contaminated teas and supplements), we are not recommending any herbal teas at this time — and will not recommend any until we can find one (or more) that does not test positive for heavy metals.

  1. Traditional Medicinals Organic Mother’s Milk Lactation Tea
  2. Traditional Medicinals Organic Throat Coat Herbal Tea
  3. Tazo Passion Tea – Not Yet Published
  4. Traditional Medicinals Organic Roasted Dandelion Root Tea

Most of the testing and reporting of the products included in this chart was not funded.
