Below is the September 2025 email exchange I had with the owner of Davids toothpaste. First, there is an image of each communication, followed by the text for that communication (with clickable links) for those using a text reader. Thanks for reading! Frankly, I was flabbergasted by Eric’s interpretation of the FDA’s language — reminding me of the following Upton Sinclair quote:

Eric Buss’ September 9, 2025 email to me:

Here’s the text from the above image (which is a screenshot of the email, exactly as sent to us):

Hi Tamara,
On your website, you state the following….

“Remember: All relevant federal agencies agree there is no safe level of Lead exposure for children (and all humans, for that matter).”

Can you please send me links to each of the agencies you are referring to where they make this statement.  I am aware that the FDA states that there is “no known safe limit for lead”, which is them admitting that they simply do know what is safe or not, but I am unaware of any agency stating that “there is no safe limit”.

Would love to understand better where you are coming from.
Thank you,

Hi Eric,

All easily found with a quick search. See links below. These include just one relevant link for each agency, plus a few bonus links (Harvard, Pulitizer, Yahoo, etc..) – but more can be found with 5 additional minutes of searching.

Please watch my documentary film – it is 92 minutes long and you will appreciate the context:

EPA

FDA

CDC

HUD

Mayo Clinic:

Harvard:

Pulitzer Center:

But really – watch my film. Then let’s talk on the phone. I will be happy to answer any questions for you. You need to re-evaluate your hydroxyapatite, hydrated silica and calcium carbonate (if you use those ingredients in your products).

  1. Tamara with the mic drop! I can’t wait to see his next response although I highly doubt he’ll have any accountability for himself or this product…

  2. I wish these companies would stop arguing with the facts and put their energy into cleaning up their products, instead. Disappointed in Davids and will look elsewhere for my toothpaste.

  3. Used to use Davids for our young child over the past few years he’s been at the age where they lose a ton of teeth, so even more opportunity for toxins to access the blood stream. Not to mention more accidental ingestion of it ’cause kids. Paid the premium price for the product because it was EWG certified – which now means nothing. Switched to a safe one as tested by lab and published by LSM. Very disappointed a CEO of a company that produces a product that goes in people’s MOUTHS – especially KIDS since it is a product advertised for kids and adults, wouldn’t ALREADY know this information. More of a regulation problem, can’t expect businesses to always put product safety above profits. Should be much stricter standards enforced by government agencies with serious penalties for noncompliance. Davids should be embarrassed at such an ignorant response by the founder and CEO no less. Hope they are educated now! Also, the arguing “No safe limit” vs “No known safe limit” is moot… logic would state there is no safe limit until one is known, not suggesting the opposite is true because there is no “known” limit. Just clean up your product instead of arguing semantics. Also a product in a metal tube, so curious if that factors into the results of the toothpaste.

  4. There is no safe levels of lead i agree. But there is no safe levels of any other chemicals either. All products are damaged in this country. Why are we going after lead only?

    1. Hi Kriste, we shortened your comment as the answer is simple.

We are an organization for childhood lead poisoning prevention. This is what we do.

If you are seeking other focus from advocacy organizations, there are many other organizations focusing on other things. Please watch our documentary film for better context about what we do.

      Thank you.

You may also appreciate our lab-tested safer choices list which has nearly 100 products that we have sent to the lab for testing that have tested clean (including eight toothpastes), clearly demonstrating that making cleaner products (across many industries) is entirely possible.
