Hi all!

We are raising funds to cover our costs for testing and report on six of the popular diaper ointments pictured. This testing is VERY IMPORTANT – as it will dispel some misinformation that has been out in the world (published by a trusted source) since at least January 17, 2025.

Each of these products was featured in a January 2025 Article by Consumer Reports – and noted as a safer choice (an article written by Sydney Cook who works for Made Safe), but the toxicant profiles of these diaper ointments were not shared in that article.

In fact, the original article stated that these products were free of toxicants (specifically that they were “non-detect” for Lead, Cadmium, and Mercury). A Lead Safe Mama community member told us about this article in September of 2025 (we were not previously aware of it). We quickly alerted a Consumer Reports’ editor to the likelihood of misinformation in that statement — and, thankfully (on September 26, 2025), Consumer Reports responded very quickly and updated the article by removing the statement below (circled in pink). A screenshot of the article from before it was edited. Here’s the link to the article with the edit/ removed statement.

As this misinformation was published by a reliable source and was “findable” and online for more than eight months, we wanted to make sure to correct the record on these products by sharing scientific test results / raw data for each of these diaper ointments in the public sphere.

Note: Our fundraiser is to help cover the costs for testing and reporting 6 of the ointments pictured. The 7th diaper ointment pictured (the Weleda) is being tested and reported on without raising the funds to do so — as a “bonus” to thank everyone for contributing to this campaign.

Each $525 raised on this campaign will cover the costs of testing and reporting for one of the popular diaper ointments pictured – and we will publish those reports each time we reach another $525 (so when $525 is raised, and then when a total of $1050 is raised, and then wen $1575 is raised, etc.)

Through this initiative, each product will be lab tested for Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, and Arsenic.

The Lead Safe Mama online community has also asked us to test these products to compare them to the toxicant levels in the diaper ointment creams we have tested and reported on so far. You can find those on this link

Thanks for contributing. Here again is the GoFundMe Link to do so: https://gofund.me/0e3f22080

We hope to publish lab reports for each of these products in October and November of 2025 – and simply need your support to help cover these costs to make this possible!

  1. Hello Tamara,
Thank you for your recent posting. I was wondering if you have a cranberry supplement brand that you recommend. I was advised to take one for UTI prophylaxis by my doctor. I was thinking of the Pure encapsulations brand, but then I saw the other Pure encapsulation brand products that you tested came back positive.
I appreciate the dedication to your work and response,
    Tiffanie
