Vintage Tupperware (pre 2011) can test positive for unsafe levels of LEAD, MERCURY, CADMIUM, and ARSENIC — all are used as colorants for the plastic — as well as BPA. It is not safe to use for foods (especially hot or acidic foods, including foods or beverages with lemon juice, lime juice, orange juice, vinegar, tomato sauce, hot tea/ iced tea, iced coffee/ hot coffee, etc). Below we have included nine articles with the test results for nine different pieces of vintage Tupperware, as well as safer alternatives for these products (currently available on Amazon).

We decided to share this information again this weekend because the vintage Tupperware often comes out when the family comes together to visit on holiday weekends (like Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day). Please share this information with your friends and family to help protect them (and especially the kids and grandkids) from being exposed to the heavy metals listed. There is no safe level of Lead exposure and many of these products were made before current regulatory standards were in place.

All of the linked products below have been tested using XRF technology and were found to be negative (non-detect) for Lead, Mercury, Arsenic and Cadmium. XRF technology tests down to a low threshold of detection of single digit parts per million (ppm).

Tamara thank you many times for bringing the issue of metals in our food and household items. By this alone I’d like to think you’ve prolonged the life of many who if possible make the decision to stir away. I’ve sifted through your website when searching for something I need for my kitchen. Recently I’ve been searching for a cake stand with a lid and overwhelmed by the options and lead content of certain pieces.
Do you think it’s safe to say the Cake Stand with Lid by Libbey the Multi-use version is another good option?
The modern clear-glass products from Libbey are good options (Lead-free when tested with XRF instrumentation)!

Tupperware measuring cups, is it only yellow ir all the different colors? Have a set each in 1970’s gold and green.
